These two links will have disappeared into the ether along with the old board so I thought that I would fire them on here as perhaps some of you might like to keep them. vimeo.com/9887328 is part of the NL match between The Stripes and Berwick from Shawfield in 1988. vimeo.com/10059470 is a cracker from 1981. An international between Scotland and England at Powderhall. Scotland:- Jim McMillan, George Hunter, Charlie McKinna, Kenny McKinna, Benny Rourke, Brian Collins. England:- Steve Lawson, Neil Collins, Dave Trownson, Chris Turner, Ivan Blacka, Alan Emerson. Commentary by Don cumming and Bert Harkins. Can I maybe suggest that if anyone has any old footage to share, that we can keep them all together in here.

I downloaded a few of the meetings which were flagged up on "speedway on disc" and thought that it might be easier if they were downloaded onto a site which would allow easy access for viewing. Here is the first one. Tigers V BV at Shawfield in 1995. vimeo.com/16398048I have downloaded another couple. One from Oxford in 1981 and an International at Shawfield between GB, Sweden and Australia. Unfortunately, the international's file is too big for Vimeo but I'll be able to download the Oxford match next week. Vimeo only allows me download a certain amount on a weekly basis.

Thanks for uploading this.
I remember when speedway videos first started appearing in around 1980 / 1981 the average price for one meeting was around £30. That would be expensive now, and must have been astronomical then.
Commentator Gareth Rogers is still involved in speedway of course - he's now the announcer at King's Lynn.
I remember watching the Powderhall meeting on the TV. It was the last thing on STV that evening (Brain Box and all that through-the-night crap didn't exist in those days) and must have started around half-past-eleven at night. It was on in midweek and I was allowed to stay up extra late to see it despite having school the next day. I remember the old man complaining about Don Cumming's forced mid-Atlantic accent, and watching this back again I can understand where he was coming from. It's fair to say that STV hadn't quite pulled themselves out of the 1970s at that time.
What's Andy Melvin doing now I wonder?

The Powderhall meeting I'm sure was on the TV the same night as the meeting(Wednesday), as I'm sure we came in from the match to watch it later, despite school the following day!!

you would not happen to have a video of k.ocup wins I've got a copy of the two meetings from '94 on the one tape. I'll have to give a viewing. Haven't watched it for a while. I haven't got the kit which would let me stick it on the computer but even if I did, I don't think that Mike Hunter would be too happy. I see that it is still on sale through Brian Logan at www.first-bend-action-videos.co.uk/2.html Brian can be contacted by using the details on www.first-bend-action-videos.co.uk/7.htmlCould be an idea for a fantastic early Christmas gift and it looks like STARS might be a beneficiary of any sales. So everyone is a winner.

I'm sure video footage exists of our wins at Milton Keynes and Ellesmere Port in 1981 I've seen a video of the Ellesmere Port meeting before. That was years ago though and I can't remember who had the tape. If memory serves, the away support was situated in the stand and can be seen (and of course heard) during the recording. Would be good to see that again. Derek. Can you remember which channel this was on and was recorded from? I seem to recall a cable channel back then that showed speedway. Was it something like "Screensport"?

Had a wee look for Screensport and found this www2.tv-ark.org.uk/otherchannels/screensport.htmlThere are a couple of very small mentions of speedway so they definitely covered it but it seems that they started broadcasting in 1984 and so the recordings that we were talking about looks like they weren't shown by them.
