www.vimeo.com/21812776The 1980 NL 4TT final from Peterborough. Unfortunately this recording starts when the meeting is down to the final four. By that time the Stripes were loading up the bikes for the homeward journey. The only Glasgow contribution is from team manager Neil McFarlane who is interviewed before the meeting. The final four teams as follows ----- CrayfordLes Rumsey Paul Woods Steve Naylor Alan Sage Laurie Etheridge (DNR) Ellesmere PortLouis Carr John Jackson Steve Finch Peter Carr Pete Ellams Rye HouseKelvin Mullarkey Bobby Garrad Kevin Smith Ashley Pullen Karl Fiala StokeBilly Burton Les Sawyer Paul Stead Neil Evitts Tony Boyle Out of all the riders mentioned above, the only riders who we don't see racing are Laurie Etheridge and Karl Fiala. Not a bad meeting at all and although the camera is quite low it captures the action well.

The 4tt qualifying in 1980 was incredible. All 4 Northern sides could qualify going into the final leg at Newcastle. In the end it was us winning the group and Berwick second. Berwick didn't win any legs while Middlesbrough won 2 and didn't qualify!!! Edinburgh were that bad in 1979 that they didn't even qualify as only the top 16 from the year before took part!!

Nice to hear an old ditty about Joey Owen getting a short airing at about the 19 min 30 sec mark. A great rider in his day.

Arena Essex V Glasgow Tigers 1984. www.vimeo.com/22358610 I was undecided about posting this one up, simply because it is incomplete. It cuts out during heat 12. It is interesting, though, as it shows the Arena Essex track which at the time operated, rather bizarrely, without a safety fence. The outside of the track was marked out with pegs. I would watch this one with a hat on if I were you. You will feel as though the dust if drifting out of your monitor. Looks as though they are racing during a bleedin' Saharan sand storm at times. And there are viewings of the away support, particularly at the 23 min mark. A young Fred Graham and Tommy Stubbings can be seen with Big John McLaughlin. I don't recognise the two supporters with the jackets on but I think that the guy on the far right is a lad from Swindon called Rob. Unsure. Fred and Tommy were going through their "Superman" phase at this time, sporting their pants over their breeks. ;D Tigers Steve Lawson, Colin Caffrey, Andy Reid, Martin McKinna, Brian Collins, Jim Beaton, Tam Bagley. Hammers Alan Sage, Martin Goodwin, Bob Humphreys, Peter Johns, Bill Barrett, David Smart, Jeremy Luckhurst.

It's Rob Bamford fron Swindon, more well known these days for his speedway book writing. We managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in this one!!!!!! Sorry, guys. You're both wrong. It looks like Martin Minall, a Tigers fan who lived in the Rye House area. I think he was a lorry/delivery driver who managed to get runs close to various tracks when the Stripes were on tour. He was a good lad. We used to joke that Martin had a pet cloud because it always seemed to rain when he made an appearance. It must have got the night off for our visit to Purfleet. I was there, but I don't remember it being so dusty. The track being a distance from the terraces probably prevented fallout landing on the crowd. The guys in Tigers jackets (apart from Big John)? The one with his back to the camera looks like Malky McGregor and the other is the one and only Colin Mackie, our flag custodian seen during his hippie-look phase.

I've stuck another half a dozen recordings on Vimeo. Fairly short clips which I downloaded from Movietone. I think that the only Tigers interest is a brief appearance from Jimmy Mac at the European Final in 1974. There are other, earlier, recordings on Movietone and I'll try to download and post them some time next week for the ET history buffs.
