On the subject of the Nicholls crash, well done to the promotion for whatever medical provision they had on Tuesday which achieved the twin, but often conflicting, aims of providing suitable medical attention and minimising the delay for fans too. Well appreciated.

Had surgery to correct the ankle. Doubt he will re-appear this season but you never know.
Down at Ipswich tonight the meeting with Berwick was abandoned by rain at the start of ht7 with the Bandits 4 points ahead!! It'll now need to be rerun however its our turn to go there next Thursday and the cut off is the following Sunday. They really seem to have self destructed recently and I'm just beginning to wonder ............

A double header at Foxhall next week perhaps? Hope not as Berwick seem to be the rain gods when they visit Ipswich. The play offs will have a credibility issue if the weather is bad next week. It looks bad if teams that ultimately make the top four are ruled ineligible because of rain offs or because the BSPA cancelled their fixtures earlier in the season; worse if a team actually finishing fifth goes on to win the event.Extending the deadline for a second time would look really weak and smack of mis management. Let's hope for better weather next week. Tuesdays weather forecast doesnt look that great for our meeting so let's hope it's wrong.

I would have more sympathy for the view that the cut off should again be extended if I felt it would help. The Lakeside v Peterborough fixture is one that isnt likely to be held before Sunday. However the teams are scheduled to meet no less than four times before September is out, and none of them is a league meeting! Do the BSPA approve cup fixtures or do they just let the teams sort out whatever they want. We really need a Fixtures Secretary with a bit of clout to tell teams what to do - like none of these four fixtures being allowed until the league meeting has been run.
UPDATE : Lakeside are now racing Peterborough as part of a double header on Saturday, while Ipswich will attempt to run their meeting with Berwick on Saturday. Let's hope it keeps dry for all teams this week.

Harris and Starke are set up with attractive averages for next year at our expense. Starke was injured for large parts of the early season and I've got sympathy with that but none for Harris who has been largely woeful until Cook arrived. If only he could have rode his Poole bikes at Glasgow. Lewis Kerr looks well placed for a return but thereafter looks another clean sweep for 2019 though I could see some previous riders returning.

Will depend on set up of league(s) for 2019. Would like Josh G, Lawson, Kerr back. Wouldnt say no to Cook who could have a "Mauger"influence on the whole club. Remember I am just saying who I would like back and not who might get the nod. Oh, aye, md, Sarj as well . LOL.

There's likely to be huge changes in the leagues set up next year. However if things are much the same, we have big decisions to make. First, I think we've all agreed we need at least one strong reserve, something we've not had in the last few years and something we have lived to regret. So if we sign/re-sign Craig Cook with his 10.45 average we need a low average reserve like Jack on 2.30 or thereabouts in order to have a second heat leader and four 5 point men.
The above stats show that we didn't get any significant improvement from anyone other than James - sorry MD! But even then James wasn't a strong senior reserve so perhaps we need to look elsewhere- cheers from MD! Perhaps we need a "Back to the Future" approach with either Coty Garcia or Theo Pijper. At least these guys appreciate what being a Tiger means. Do we need to throw the dice on a 5.20 assessed rider like Becker or one of the Aussies that rode in the U21 WTC event at Ashfield earlier this season?
As MD says Starke and Harris are now on attractive averages thanks to their 2018 figures. Not sure if either would want to come back .. or if we would want them. On the subject of taking back, would we have either Ben Barker or Rene Bach back? Rene certainly, Ben perhaps,
Without doing the detailed arithmetic would Cook; Barker/ Bach; Kerr; Assessed Rider ; Pipjer; Garcia and Thomas do for next year - in the unlikely event of things remaining the same next year.

I doubt that the promotion would entertain Barker on a 1 point average - I certainly would not support his return. Pijper has had a poor season for someone with his talents - I would need to know if he is fully committed before signing him. The others mentioned would be very acceptable. I was disappointed when Garcia was not kept after bringing him from a raw novice to a usable asset. Jack still struggles at times but, at his age, winter training is when youngsters tend to make strides. A season in Oz would not go amiss if he could afford it. The main requirement of a winning team is the ability of all members to increase their average. All named are triers, good to watch and have potential to improve.

Thats the thing about stats, they dont always give the full picture. Sarj only really started scoring in the last third of the season, and pulled in some big scores rather than his standard ones and twos. Thankfully on an average above 4 he doesnt represent value so wont be back in 2019. A free scoring reserve is key, just look at Simon Lambert at PB, who gave us a doing at home last year and regularly rattles up double figures. Think we missed the boat with Pijper, he was 4.23 at the start of this season and is now 5.49. A solid lower order rider but not sure how much improvement there would be. Garcia is better value on 4.47 though Lunna is also sitting on 5.57 though has had another injury interrupted season.

Yes had considered Lunna too although he does seem injury prone and his average is even higher than Pijpers. Really think the leagues will be quite different next year and don't think we should be trying to build teams to a 42 average based on this years Green Sheets.

With drosser on Barker. Kevin Keay at Redcar said the other week he was a nightmare off the track so I think our top brass would only entertain him as a guest. Garcia, I would take any day but , as drosser said, at his age and with his long track racing how truly committed would the Pijper be ? One thing is it is going to be an interesting winter
