Hallelujah! An away win and a four point one against a hapless Newcastle who had a truly woeful guest in Jordan Stewart. However Ipswich's draw a Peterborough takes a bit of the gloss off tonight. The form guide table is now Workington +11 Lakeside +11 Peterborough +6 Glasgow +6 Edinburgh +5 Ipswich +5 We're back in the hunt but need something more from our away meetings . Workington and Lakeside seem "certs" so let's look at the aways of the four other contenders Peterborough - Lakeside, Berwick, Newcastle, Ipswich, Workington Glasgow - Ipswich, Edinburgh, Workington Edinburgh - Berwick, Sheffield, Glasgow, Workington Ipswich - Glasgow, Scunthorpe, Workington Right now Peterborough and Edinburgh look favourites, with away possibilities at Berwick and Newcastle for the Panthers and Berwick and Sheffield for the Monarchs while Ipswich and ourselves have three tough aways left, where anything gathered would be a bomus. However at least our season will still be live until after the schools go back and the home and away series with the Monarchs will be pivotal at the end of the month. Still fighting!

We have already raced Workington, our 'third' fixture is against Lakeside. So I can see us finishing on +6 at best. So we actually need Workington to lose at least 2 meetings at home to have a chance of qualifying!

Workington have away meetings at Newcastle and Redcar later this month and must fancy their chances at both tracks so I don't think we have any realistic chance of overhauling them. Our best hope would be for Workington to win at Armadale in early September. How popular would that be!

Berwick do us a big favour by handing Peterborough a large defeat with the Panthers failing to gain a league point. With Workington similarly depriving Ipswich it's been a good night for us. If Newcastle can repeat Berwicks feat tomorrow then Peterborough's star is beginning to fade. However we need to keep a clean sheet at home and Sunday's meeting with the Monarchs will be pivotal. It should be a cracker and hopefully draws a large crowd.

It was all looking so good midmeeting at Newcastle tonight both from the Diamonds and our point of view. After nine heats they led Peterborough by ten points and Scott Nicholls had taken their tactical ride too. However things didn't continue in this vein and although Newcastle held on to win, Peterborough managed 43 and took a league point. This puts them on the +7 mark, making them third behind Workington and Lakeside, both of whom they still have to visit and it woukd be a big ask for them to bring anything away from these venues. Next we need Sheffield to sort out Edinburgh at Owlerton. Another big ask given the Yorkshire Tigers current home form. Fingers crossed.

After tonight's results it looks a lot clearer re-the play-offs. Workington (+12), Peterborough(+11) and Lakeside (+11) are virtual certainties. Monarchs are on +7 and we are on +6. So it makes this weekend's fixtures against Monarchs even more important with a win for us at Ipswich now a necessity.

.....or a win at Armadale tonight. For once in my life I agree with Edinburgh's Alex Harkess when he said "You cannot win the league at home, you can only lose it, and you cannot lose the league away from home you can only win it." Right now its advantage Edinburgh but there's still quite a few permutations that can see us wrest the fourth place, like Workington winning at Armadale, like Lakeside winning at Armadale. However the biggest imperative is that we beat the Monarchs on Sunday and by enough to ensure they don't get a point.

I didn't expect much tonight but even so was hugely disappointed by tonight's score. While I wasn't impressed that we had Ben Barker as a guest, fair play to the guy, without him tonight would have been a complete humiliation. Was Greaves fit or was this just a try out before his meeting for Wolves on Monday? However the facts are - if we win 49-41 on Sunday we are no worse off than we were at 7pm tonight - with Ipswich murdering Scunthorpe at Scunny we now have a home and away shoot out with the Witches - if we win at Ipswich we can get into the playoffs - if Ipswich win at Ashfield we won't be in the playoffs... and neither will the Monarchs - if we win on Sunday! - we sacked the wrong Tiger in June! Richie Worrall 12 tonight Chris Harris 3, go figure!

The chickens have come home to roost. Last night must have been an embarrassment for Tigers'supporters who were at Armadale. I'm sorry to say that I predicted something like this at the start of the season.

With the weather being so good this afternoon, its hard to believe tomorrow's forecast. If tomorrow is on, we need Cook to inspire our guys, in particular Harris and Vissing who owe Tigers fans big time after last night. We need to have a reliable assessment of Greaves fitness and go with RR if necessary. As fans we need to get behind the boys tomorrow regardless of whether we think the team is good/bad/indifferent or whether we think we will make the playoffs. We need to ensure Edinburgh don't get a league point. If we lose or season is over while a win will keep us going for a couple more meetings. Let's do it!

Our best hope would be for Workington to win at Armadale in early September. How popular would that be! Some hope! Edinburgh absolutely murdered Workington tonight. 65 -25 which makes our showing there look reasonable. Sadly the Monarchs are the team in form and, with their form at Armadale, must be fancied to take any team over two legs. This makes it imperative that we "do" them when they come to Ashfield. ABE !

Edinburgh get a league point at Workington tonight, taking them to +8, with Workington staying on +12. The Monarchs might be regretting being a bit cute in heat eleven, with Wells seemingly being uninterested in passing Proctor and Palovaara similarly losing out to Bickley, allowing them a tac sub in heat 12 but to little avail, with Worrall coming third.
This means we are now two points behind the Monarchs and we really need a win at Ipswich.... and to win our last two home meetings against the Witches and the Monarchs, both stiff tasks but doable.

We dont have long to wait to find out. I have my doubts we will beat Ipswich on Tuesday or at least stop them getting a point. Sarjeant will be riding at 2 and we have Manzares in for Greaves who has dropped around 1.5 points from his average this season. The Witches have Fernando in good form and a decent prospect in Kemp. With Ashfield being one of the easier tracks to ride, he may find it to his liking.
