Anyone been to the track recently....or know how it's looking now? Looks like a mega overhaul judging from Snappers pics....just wondering if we'll be up and running on time this season.

I've been at the track the last couple of Sundays, when I left last week most of the fence posts on the 1st & 2nd bends had been put into place, and alot of heavy work had been done to the area behind the pits.
The pits were to be worked on on Monday to finish digging out behind them (to park the tractors), the ramp up to the higher level was also needing re-done again once that was completed.
The posts for the back straight and the 4th bend should be quicker as ther is an obvious line to follow so less time would be needed to line them up.
I'm not sure what the plan is for this weekend with the downturn in the weather, ideally there would be work done both days as there ate things that are easier done without all the heavy plant moving in and out the stadium.

With the weather and the Old Firm, there were only a half dozen of us on Sunday, we did some more work getting the back straight & bends ready for the posts, but there is still lots of work to do, so the more the merrier this coming weekend. The difficult part for the posts is getting the holes into the concrete steps, and thats something that can only be done one at a time with the equipment at the track, as far as I know.
If anyone had a free day, even during the week I am sure there will be jobs that can be done, I think Willie and Donald have been at the track most days.
The posts for the 1st and 2nd bend are installed, and also the posts for the pits exit are sited, the fence is the most important thing to get up, as Doc will require it to get the line & track level for the various graders etc that will be needed to get the old surface up and the new one down, he will also need a break in the weather.

Despite more negative comments about the ongoing track work elsewhere (not on ET) I would like to give you all the official line.
The weather, since the end of november has not been kind to us, however through a lot of patience and hard work we still find ourselves on target. Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion, spare a thought for the volunteers and workers who are giving up their time to assist in what is arguably the biggest project the promotion has ever taken on. The track changes are to improve the product on offer and thankfully most people appreciate that.
What you see at the moment is the base of the track NOT THE FINISHED RACING SURFACE! We are trying to get the base to dry out prior to the racing surface being applied. We intend to employ a contractor to add a lime mixture to the existing material which will accelerate the drying out process, once this is done the racing surface will be laid within 3-4 days.
Most of the fence posts are now up and once the tension wires are inserted the fence can be put up. We will then require to rebuild some of the perimiter wall.
As always we will require as much help as we can. This winter has seen us take on a massive project and the more positivity we surround ourselves with will see us succeed. Sometimes you wonder if some people want us to fail.
Fail we won't!

They appreciate the foundations are being laid for the long term future. Ignore the rest, there will always be a minority who find fault and no doubt wish failure on anything new or changing in life - they're not worth worrying about! The hard work and financial investment is no doubt appreciated by the many. Rome wasn't built in a day!

Thanks for the update Craig, great to hear we are on track.
Will be there this weekend, at the very least Sunday, hoping the weather isn't too bad, but I know there are other tasks that can be done (like painting the kickboards, for example).
As I said before I know the fence is important for Doc & Co. to be able to line up the new track level and clearing the current excess before re-dressing the surface for racing. Sounds like there has been fair progress in getting the fence posts in, most of the locations had been marked and at least cleared ready for drilling last I was there.
Once the fence is up there will be quite a bit to do, not to mention re installing all the electrics which will be a big job for Colin & Co. to do as almost all the red lights & speakers have had to be moved, except maybe one or two on the home straight, between the exclusion lights and the snackbar, but I suspect they would need re-wired anyway.
So as I've also said before, the more the merrier, the more bodies the closer we will get to having the track up and running, the speed of them coming off the banking looks like it will be immense, especially off the 4th bend drive to the line.

Craig, I'm delighted that we appear to have a track that will be the envy of others in 2011-what I'm less happy about is any freelance slagging off of anyone who for any number of reasons can't contribute to trackwork but who can maybe make a contribution to the Tigers' cause in any other way. That's not findiing fault, it's just punters suggesting there's more than one way to contribute to the Tigers! Hope the track wil be as good as some are suggesting-if it lives up to the expectation created, the standard of racing alone (and therefore generate enough revenue for the Tigers) will ensure that the only place to be on a Sunday afternoon will be Ashfield at 4.00pm!
