How about another query to keep everyone’s brains active over the weekend?
How many different nationalities have ridden for the Tigers over the years?
We’ll allow guest riders to be included in the hope of finding some really obscure answers.
I suspect we’ll comfortably get to around 20, then we’ll need to rely on the more forensic minds to top up the list with riders from Kyrgyzstan or Mali who turned out once in 1949 etc.
The rules are totally elastic, so please feel free to throw in as many tenuous ones as you like.
I’ll start with 4 easy ones to get things going:
Scotland: Jim McMillan England: Steve Lawson Australia: Charlie Monk Hungary: Robert Nagy

Stretching the rules a fair bit beyond breaking point! Tommy Price - Russia!!! Tommy rode for Glasgow at Newcastle in 1945 and also rode for "Russia" that year at Belle Vue against Britain and "USA" who tracked well known Yanks such as Eric Chitty - isn't he Canadian? - and Ron Johnson - either Australian or Scottish, you choose.

Can i just leave it at these from 46-54 era as i dont want to be thought of as a smart ass or know all Nope, I'm afraid not. We need you to dig into those archives again and see what other names you can throw into the mix. We're discussing this in a niche section, of a niche website, about a niche sport. If you can't be a smart ass in here then where can you be?

Great work everyone, a load of brilliant suggestions and 23 different countries already.
I’ve had a chat with the voices in my head the adjudicators and our rulings are as follows:
Poty Sanchez is absolutely both Argentinian and Italian, so he’s allowed on the list twice.
Egon Muller certainly was a West German when he rode for us, so we’ll allow separate nominations for the united Germany and East Germany too. Though I don’t think we’ll find an East German.
For similar reasons, we'll allow both Rhodesia and Zimbabwe.
I’m not going to allow Tommy Price. If we considered him to be Russian then we’d have to consider people like Steve Lawson and Oyvind Berg as Scottish as they’ve both got Scotland caps.
I’ve got a question mark against Howard Cole, do we know if he did rid for us?
Here’s the list at the moment:
Argentina: Emiliano Sanchez Australia: Charlie Monk Canada: Bruce Venier Czech Republic: George Stancl Denmark: Tim Korneliussen England: Steve Lawson Finland: Kai Laukkanen France: David Bellego Hungary: Robert Nagy Italy: Emiliano Sanchez Netherlands: Theo Pijper New Zealand: Alf Wells Norway: Oyvind S Berg Poland: Michal Rajkowski Rhodesia: Mike Ferreira Scotland: Jim McMillan Slovenia: Sandi Conda South Africa: Vern McWilliams Sweden: Daniel Andersson U.S.A : Dukie Ermolenko Wales: Howard Cole West Germany: Egon Muller Zimbabwe: Dave Steen

I'm not really thinking of makeshift teams with riders missing through injury or whatever, more the first line-up that didn't include a bona fide Scot amongst the recognized regular riding squad.

Don't know if this counts but in 1964 Bill McMillan didnt ride in our away meetings at Poole and Hackney. Was he on holiday or was it a cost saving measure? Our team at Hackney was Monk 11; Mattingly 7; Redmond 7; Stone 3; Ovenden 1; Coombes 0; Ridgeon 0:

22 April 1946 was first post war appearance in a challenge at Newcastle. No Scots ( dont think Terry Tight was Scottish) Bill Baird from Lanark rode in the next one 24 April, a National Trophy match at the White City v Sheffield. The return on 25th at Owlerton =no Scots.
It was the fourth match before Tigers name was used but to me it was that opener on 22nd that was the first Scot free team.

Think Bill was just left out because a) he failed to score at Wolverhampton five days before and b) it was cheaper , as you hinted, to use Ridgeon at both as he was southern based. He scored in neither !

Trevor Redmond knew the value of a shilling particularly when it came to travelling expenses. Jack Monteith wasn't required to go to Exeter and Long Eaton with Trevor filling in for him. Similarly when Chris Julian was going to miss our home Northern League meeting against a weak Sunderland side, he could have booked a Southern League rider as a guest but chose to ride instead. I suspect this was another example.
