what about the beach a lot of well known speedway riders use to practice that way, lava get your self up to a decent standard before you go to a track and another thing you can use anything on a beach no J.J. to worry about
I'm not too sure about the beach. There are very few suitable in the central belt and generally have houses close and dog walkers even in the middle of winter. I'm sure that I read an article recently stating that the police could confiscate bikes and equipment if riders use the beach.
Here is part of a similar article from the Westmorland Gazette: -
"PC Linda Head, community beat manager for the area, said: "Quad bikes on the sands can be a real nuisance for those who are trying to enjoy the beauty of our beaches - and bikes can be seized if people are causing problems for others, or if their bikes are not roadworthy" (perhaps no brakes might upset them!!).
The other problem with the beach is keeping the sand and salt water out of engines and bearings - it is much worse than shale.
A training track and National League team would be a godsend to any budding novice but it is a 'horse and cart' situation. There is no point buying a top notch cart with no horse. As Davie and Colin have pointed out, there is not enough demand for someone to fork out money on a new venture with so few juniors available. It really needs a wealthy businessman with one or more sons desperate to be riders. If the Beaton boys or Brian Whaley had no interest in speedway in the late '60s / early '70s, Glasgow Speedway may have closed its doors with the closure of White City. Say what you like about old Jimmy Beaton (and I often have) he has ploughed a large part of his life and money into the sport and deserves more recognition. It would be a good time for a younger version with the same single minded determination. If you know of such a person, convince his son(s) that Speedway is their future - simple as that - I wish.
