Just thought that I would give you all an update on work at the track.
Following on from the much valued volunteers work we were able to bring in the "heavy team" BCE Ltd.
The guys got on far better than they expected, mainly due to the weather, and by the end of last week were already rolling the new, wider back straight. Most of the perimeter walls including the wall in front of the bar were taken down and we were beginning to visualise how the new superfast track would look. Snapper was good enough to pop in and take some progress photo's which many of you will have seen.
Monday and tuesday of this week saw WH Malcolm supply around 30 loads (600 tonnes) of material to raise the levels of the track particularly around the 3rd and 4th turns. Sadly that is where it all ended this week as Tommy and his men were finally defeated by the snow however we are still ahead of where we hoped to be at this time.
It is testimony to them that they got any work done at all in these conditions. Their desire and ambition to help us succeed has to be commended as they too are being carried along on the wave of positivity and expectation that is prevelant through both the club, riders and supporters as we colectively look forward to 2011.
We are hoping to return to work at Ashfield on monday as we are looking to complete the heavy track work before Christmas. Thereafter we will require volunteers to assist in erecting the new safety fence and kick boards, obviously weather permitting.
I will update again next week.

Thanks for the update,
Can I ask a wee question, I noted that the football team were looking to widen the pitch, how will this effect the overall gains in the width of the straights?

FF, we require to give the football club 5m more overall. These measurements are taken from the points of the corners on the existing pitch.
We will give them 1m on the home straight and 4m on the back straight. The net effect of this means that the home straight will not be any narrower but will in fact be wider on the 1st and 4th turns. The home straight fence will run further to the first bend basically picking up the line of the old 2m perimeter wall, before sweeping round to meet the old perimeter wall in front of the telephone mast. This will give us, after the 4m, another 2m of width on the newly banked back straight. We need this because of the extended sweep into the wider and higher 3rd turn, the width of which will also extend up some of the terracing steps.
The 4th bend exit will naturally be wider as we follow the line of the old wall which was outside the bar before rejoining the home straight fence.
Grievesy reckons that we could be adding another 5mph on to the speed of the bikes with the track like this.
A bit long winded but hopefully this answers your question.

Thanks for the update Craig.
Fingersfin:
I belive that the home straight is being left untouched, meaning all the widening is being done on the back straight side, I think the two straights will be evened out and the extra space given to the football pitch, but I suspect it will only be used for the dugouts untill the end of the football season as any move to use it (or to widen the home straight) will require the goal posts to be moved which I can't see being done during the season.
That being said the home straight will be wider into the first bend as it is moving out after approx the start/dq lights, this would become less pronounced if/when an air fence is installed, a it has been hinted that they will be mandantory within year or so.

I here the pits will be in the same area but the pits gate will be between the 1st and 2nd bends i think . The pits area may require some alterations and the area will be reduced because of the track. Once the track is completed then we will sort out the configuration of how and where the tractors and bikes will enter the track, although it is safe to say it will be somewhere within the first and second turns. We will try and get some progress photos onto the official website this week. We will produce some more once the snow goes away. Craig
