Common sense move, I hate March speedway. With so few fixtures this year and a late Easter, it would be good to open our season on Easter Friday, the 19th April against the 0131. Plenty of free dates between then and September to accommodate rainoffs. October, naturally we will be running 3 or 4 meetings a week in a rush job to close the season anyway!

Mr Harris complaining in the Star he hasnt been paid for his "efforts" at Rye House. Posters on BSF reckon his "efforts" are due payment of £2.50 and a bag of crisps. Also rumoured to be on more per point than Doyle. Looks like we were not the only ones to get screwed over . Should we have a whip round for him ?

I was right about Harris from the start of last season and made myself most unpopular with some supporters for expressing my opinion. I repeat, over hyped, over paid and under-performed. I hope lessons have been learned.

If we beat them then do we claim the treble ? Only fair, I think

I would’ve started the season against them in a challenge

I would’ve started the season against them in a challenge Could still happen either as our first meeting or on Easter Sunday when we're free, although open meetings don't seem to be something we do in the current era.

Riders havent been interested in Open meetings for the last few seasons to be fair. They've been too busy and not wanted to get injured over a nothing meeting. Perhaps with so few fixtures this year it may change but i doubt it. You've also got to remember Britain is bottom of the pecking order for riders, even many of the average one's ride in Poland for lower league teams and the money is still significantly better than GB.

It certainly wasn't a problem for Edinburgh last year when they had three or four challenge meetings of some kind. The wider question is whether our fans would support it in sufficient numbers for it to be profitable.

www.speedwaygb.co.uk/news.php?extend.36023Berge cancels his Somerset contract because he can't get a full time mechanic. This encapsulates all that is wrong with our sport. The guy is a second string at best and must be getting paid enough to afford a full time employee. Oh for the days when riders looked after their own bikes and had a day job too!

Perhaps its that there is a shortage of mechanics for this particular rider!
No doubt he will only fly in for meetings and need his kit moved around.

It certainly wasn't a problem for Edinburgh last year when they had three or four challenge meetings of some kind. The wider question is whether our fans would support it in sufficient numbers for it to be profitable. All riders dream of being world champion or at least achieving world top 10 status. This brings lots of sponsorship offers and enough income to be super professional. Most will never get near this level yet some think that is the level that they should start at (how many companies offer top salaries and benefits to school leavers with no significant achievement?). All of the top riders have had to serve a hard apprenticeship and make themselves a necessity. Berge is certainly a talent who, with the right attitude, has a chance of reaching a higher level in the sport. i.e. he has potential but it is up to him to develop that - a lot of dedication and hard work required. He has proved that he is not a team player. Leon Madsen is now starting to achieve his potential after similar early career 'diva' moments - however, it has taken him 15 years or so to discover how. Maybe Dimitri will wise-up before he is too old to benefit.

This year's GPs will become more like F1 with qualifying times. Is it just a ploy to sell tickets for the practice session? Don't suppose programmes can have the rider order now. www.speedwaygb.co.uk/news.php?extend.36037How do you guys see it?

Not good. A practice session is just that. Its an opportunity for riders to test equipment and setups, and the mechanics to work on them overnight ready for the main event on the Saturday. Riders new to the GP circuits would seem to be automatically penalised as they would be getting used to the track rather than trying to rattle the track record on first visit.
It also ensures that all riders must attend practice on Friday's, something that not all do. In essence it all seems like an unnecessary speed test where those with the biggest budgets and best kit get ahead rather than the best or upcoming riders.
