In an interview on this site Benny Rourke identified his best moment as winning the Scot. Jnr.Chmpshp at Coatbridge. In 'Speedway in Scotland', p224, it states Colin Caffrey won the Scot. Youth Chmpshp at Paisley on Sept. 18th 1976, (though CC has elsewhere been referred to as the Scot Jnr. Champ for that year.)
Were there 2 distinct competitions, or is the year wrong for one of them ?

Dunno about the Junior Championship but the Youth Championship which CC won was definitely in 1976 at Paisley-it was one of the very last meetings held there.

Unless it was a training meeting run off season or a second half event

Benny definitely won the Scottish Junior Championship in 1976. The meeting was held as the second half of a junior 3 team tournament (Tigers [or Scotland - I can't remember which] v Northern Select [Crewe based] v Midlands Select). This tournament was the brainchild of the late, great Charlie Scarborough. Glasgow won easily on the night and also won the second leg at Crewe - the third leg did not materialise. I have never seen speedway go ahead in such atocious conditions - the only parts of the track which could be seen at lunchtime were the highest part of the bends. Jimmy Beaton had a pump running all day and removed the excess. I recall asking Jimy Gallacher what he thought of the track. "You would need to be f***ing crazy to attempt to ride in that - there is no way that I would". Inspiring words, particularly coming from Jimmy. However, the meeting went ahead and the track held up surprisingly well. Benny had moved up to the main team so did not ride in the main meeting. I think that he rode in a qualifier, then the final of the SJC. I did not see these races as I was crying over the remains of the bike that I had lent to Alan Maclean who then severely tested the safety fence with it. I do not recall the other rostrum places - perhaps someone wil have a programme.

On the Junior theme, - before the Heathersfield Gold Helmet became a trophy for native Scots only, (2007 onward) what was it awarded for ? - a Scottish 'Open' junior trophy? , or what ? (Maybe just the "H.GH Comp'n" -? , in which case : - - what happened before 2005 & '06 (when the top Scots in the H.GH took the Scottish Jnr. title,) i.e. in '03 & '04? when 2 English riders took the H.GH? Who was the Sc.Jnr. champ then? - or was it an 'Open' Sc.Jnr. Chmpshp, won by Robertson & Stoddart ?

Thanks for your responses. With the help of much add'l research by David Austin I'm confident all the variously-titled junior Scottish championships, - Sc.Youth Ch, Armadale Jnr Ch, Heathersfield GH, Jnr Indiv. Ch, Sc.Jnr Lge R.Ch, U18, U16, etc - , have been identified and sorted and can now be seen here, speedwaychampions.com/MidlandLondonScottish.aspx along with the senior titles also.
