With thanks to Speedway Bike Australia
SHANE'S FINAL FRONTIER
I also spoke to Shane Parker (pictured above right) yesterday and he gave me a tremendous insight into what is happening with him as he draws ever nearer to the end of his outstanding and very long career.
"I have just been granted a Farewell Meeting in the UK", he said.
"At the moment I am exploring my option as to which track will hold hold event and I will keep your readers posted on where and when as soon as I know.
"I'm really excited about my last season and hope to go out on a high if things go the way I plan.
"Half way through last season I changed from Jawa to GM engines and wished I had made the change ten years ago. The change has been a good one for me and feel I have more speed on the GMs.
"I'm still Chairperson of the Speedway Rider's Association here in the UK.
"Moving to Somerset last season saw me pick up Sharp Retail Systems are a sponsor and through them I have also gained backing from Dickies workwear.
"I also have Underarmour as a relatively new sponsor, they came on board three seasons ago.
"I lost the majority of my cash sponsors when I left Glasgow two years ago, but I have a band of loyal sponsors that have helped me for many years throughout my career and I can't thank those people enough.
"A league title here in the UK has eluded me for all the 21 years of racing in Britian.
"I have won league titles in Poland and Sweden so to win a league title in the UK would be the icing on the cake for me.
"I also aim to finish the season with over a 9 point average.
"Our final date of departure for OZ is a little sketchy at the moment, but I hope to be home by the New year. One thing I know for sure is that we are going to have a very busy year. I want to ride in the next Aussie Titles as my farewell to my professional career.
"I think I would like to carry on competing in Adelaide for a while just for fun.
"I see Nigel Sadler, Mitch Shirra and a few of the boys have a go at the veterans meeting there and I would fancy having a blast with those boys.
I have even got a bike I can lend to Scott Norman, so hey mate come out and play!"
