Just a couple of days before Hogmanay will be the 25th anniversary of the last ice hockey game played at Crossmyloof when the Dynamos murdered Sheffield 29-3 - although the fortunes of these two clubs went in diametrically opposite directionsthroughout the rest of the 80s!! I am sure no one leaving the rink that night had any idea that we wouldn't be back, but sadly the roof fell in and the rink never reopened - and we never said goodbye.
Our track homes have been a bit like that too. White City,s final meeting was on the September weekend in 1968 and no one doubted that we wouldn't be back the following year...but we weren't we were off to Hampden. The 1972 season at Hampden ended in a weird eerie atmosphere following the deaths of Svein Kaasa after a track crash and George Beaton following a road accident.. but again we thought we would be back. Coatbridge and Balntyre1 bucked the trend as their closing was known in advance. Not sure about Craighead Park - was there a lunar eclipse at one of the last meetings in 1986? and did the Roseberry Park plans only break in the close season? At Shawfield we weren't even sure if the season had ended!!! with an away leg in the play offs still to come at the Isle of Wight - we weren't back the following week......or ever again!!
So its really good to say " see you at Ashfield next season!"
Have a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year

I think everyone knew we wouldn't be back at Craighead Pk but I dont think anyone knew where we were meant to be going!!! There was a lunar eclipse that night. Unfortunately I was at Peterborough and missed the last match here. Strangely I also missed the last one at Blantyre 1 as well!! I managed to get to the last one at Coatbridge and Shawfield (mind you I missed the opening match, one of only 4 I missed the whole time we were there!!)
