CC Anybody that rode as dangerous as me

CC Stoke and Weymouth

Q You featured in one of my favourite races of all times, when you beat oxford's Dave Perks at
Blantyre in 1981 he was one of the top men in the league at the time, do you remember it.
CC I was in Trap 1 the bike done it I just happened to stay on it I was using Kenny Mac's bike
Q Favourite track blantyre1 - craighead park
CC I liked both tracks
Q You were involved in a spectacular crash at Craighead Park one year, when you dissappeared over the pit fence, can you recall how it happened.
CC I ran into the back of Craig Pendlebury. The back wheel done a wheelie my short arms opened the throttle too much
The doc looked through ma ears and said you can go back on yer bike there's northing in there.
Q Lets be honest the stripes were woeful on their travels throughtout the mid-80s what was team morale like on southern tours,
when you knew you were in for a doing.
CC You'd think we won the league when we left Exeter safe and sound. When the seven were in the dressing room pre match
I would say I wonder how many we'll get beat by and somebody would say shut up doctor doom. It's stuck to this day.
Q You partnered the great Stevie lawson quite often during your tigers career, how enjoyable was that
CC Greaaaaat Big holes everywhere I was always worried about being lapped by him as ma bikes were really slow.
Q Glasgow marathon on the sunday morning Blantyre speedway on the sunday afternoon were you mad.
CC Bananas and knackered 3 points I think I run the marathon with a broken arm and stopped for a drink of water
and an old woman says get going there's nothing wrang wa yer legs. Glasgow humour!
QUESTIONS BY HERBIE
Q Do you think that your racing career was held back by the fact you had to work full-time and had to fit in your racing round
about it-eg having to go to peterbourgh on a friday night and maybe have to work part of the day before going
CC I had to drive to Weymouth all Tuesday, Race (leave Freddy Frog to do a hoose rewire in Carntyne himself) drive back
overnight, back to a hammer and chisel at 8am for the next hoose. Frog gave me time off when needed.
Q Did you get hospital miles for the number of trips you paid to various A & E's up and down the country
CC Luckily never got kept in. From Blantyre they would take us to as we called it 'The Butcher's Shop' at Hairmyers
When a broke my arm in 84 there was an ambulance strike, big Diesel took me in his car over every bump
I had a cheque for £500 from AFW in my pocket that day and phoned Archie Wallace to say my season was over.
I didn't need it, he said to keep it he was brand new.
Q Who was the best guy to ride with and was there any particular rider you took more pleasure in beating
CC Steve because he never crashed and Harry Mac because he did crash. Harry and me had a competition at reserve
to see who would win the most races a won 11-9 that year and he would do anything to win.

Q Did you and Fred ever race in the same team
CC Yes at Newcastle v Paisley Heat 2 got knocked off 1st bend including Fred and Dave Younghusband rushed to me
and said your supposed to turn the f----------- corner.
Q Did you enjoy riding at Love Street Paisley and never ever beat the tigers
CC Yes I enjoyed Paisley Tigers teams were too strong.
