The Scottish Junior champion was decided by two heats and a final in the years mentioned. In 1968 it was held at Coatbridge and was won by Al Brady. Not so sure about 1970 when it was held at Hampden. I will try and find my programs for that season

Alistair Brady won in 1970, beating Ken Omand, Alan Mackie and Brian Murray. (Source: Glasgow Tigers into the 80s by Ian Steel and David Thomson).
The book doesn't provide heat details, but I'm sure Coombes will have the evidence when he emerges from his loft. Mind those roof beams, now.

Heat 1: Ken Omand, Alistair Brady, Lex Molloy, Jimmy Gallacher (exc), 80.8 Heat 2: Alan Mackie, Brian Murray, 80.8 George Beaton and Mick Beaton were programmed in this race, but my programmes doesn't say whether they competed or not.

1968 championship was held after the Coatbridge Kings v Berwick callenge match, which Berwick won 40-37. Kings boasted such luminaries as Jimmy Tannock, a very young Bobby Beaton and Irishmen Kevin Mcrae and Mervin McConkey (honestly!!)
The details of the Scottish Junior Championship are
Heat 1 Bobby Beaton; Al Brady; Alec Nicol; Bill Maxwell 73.2
Heat2 Mark Hall; Roy Williams; Frank Skinner; Brian Whaley NF 72.6
Final Al Brady; Mark Hall; Roy Williams; Bobby Beaton Fell 72.4
Bill Maxwell was the heaviest speedway rider I have ever seen - certainly 16stone and possibly more! Roy Williams was the assumed name used by Bernie Lagrosse - who still posts on this board!! Nothing was ever heard again about McRae and McConkey
All in all, it was quite a night

The meeting at Motherwell took place on 7th August 1953, not 8th August.

I am wondering if he is any relation to Arthur. Not exactly a common surname. Why does the name Artie Fisher ring a bell? The old grey matter ain't what it was. Was he something to do with Glasgow speedway in an administrative capacity at one time?

Why does the name Artie Fisher ring a bell? I'm sure Artie Fisher was the machine examiner for Monarchs in the 60s. Also, the mention of the Irishmen reminded me I was there (well, who could forget a name like Mervyn McConkey), in the days when you went to anything speedway related! I believe they were on grass track machines and we never saw them again.

I believe they were on grass track machines and we never saw them again. You're right about Artie. As well as being machine examiner, Artie was / is a mechanical expert and was a godsend to many junior riders in the 60's and 70's. He worked as design chief at Reid Corrugated (cardboard) at Maybury, Edinburgh but was never too busy to help youngsters to build up their bikes (and weld up their scrapheap cars) so that they could afford to race. He charged virtually nothing and nothing was ever wasted. He still lives quietly with wife Betty on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Follow this link for a Bertola humerous story (absolutely true) about his birthday last year www.world-sra.org.uk/Comrades%20&%20Letters/speedway_jungle_drums.htm .
