Questions from Jim Neil
Question 1: I started going to speedway in 1969 when Hampden Park in Glasgow opened a track. How did you enjoy the whole Hampden experience?
RD: It was very exciting!
Question 2: I have been told by others who know your style better than me, that you used to revel in wet conditions. It is true and if so, why do you think that your racing style adapted better to the wet?
RD: This was true, the advantage was that others were apprehensive.
Question 3: How many clubs did you race for in your career?
RD: Three ... Newcastle, Glasgow and Sunderland
Question 4: Which was your favourite home track and why?
RD: Hampden Park, Glasgow because it was large and fulfilling
Question 5: Transport must have been a wee bit more difficult in the 1960s rather than these days where we have a much improved roads network. What particular difficulties did you encounter?
RD: There were always traffic jams on the A1
Question 6: We all know the way in which Charlie Monk was portrayed as a great rider but rather stand offish and gruff. How did you get along with him?
RD: I never had any problems with him

Question 7: You rode for different promotors over the years – Danny Taylor and Les Whaley with the Tigers and Mike Parker and Ian Hoskins with Newcastle. How did their approach differ?
RD: All had minor differences.
Question 8: Who would you happily ride for and why?
RD: Too old at present. (In a year or to I will make my mind up).
Question 9: More interestingly who was your least favourite rider and why?
RD: Les Duffer and Les Whaley

Question 10: Did you like a slick track or ones with plenty of dirt?
RD: Plenty of dirt
Question 11: How many tracks did you ride in Scotland?
RD: Five in total
Question 12: Who was the best promotion you raced under?
RD: Len Silver
Question 13: How much are you selling your scarf for?
RD: Its long gone!
Question 14: Did you enjoy riding with Jack Millen?
RD: It was very "interesting".
Question 15: If you were starting to race now do you think it would be too expensive?
RD: Yes very much so!
Question 16: Did you ever get international call-ups?
RD: Yes, domestic.
Question 17: Did you ever ride at Milton Street, Motherwell
RD: Yes
Question 18: After the meeting did you enjoy a Scottish fish supper?
RD: Yes, down at the Gorbals.
