I'm wanting to re-live one of my childhood speedway memories.
When Peter Collins was world champion Belle Vue visited Cliftonhill for an inter league 4TT. It was in 76.
I know it's a long shot but would anyone know if there are any pics, movies, race card or even a match programme on tinernet?
I'd be most grateful!

It was September 1976, George and it was a 4TT involving the Tigers, Belle Vue, Hull and Halifax, I think. I also believe PC went through the card. The second half was called something like the Monklands Festival Trophy. I only know this because I have the programme of the meeting, but it is years since I have looked at it, so this is off the top of my head. I dont think I have ever seen any pics and definitely no movies He did come to Blantyre one with the Aces aswell. In 1979, but he was pish ;D I can remember his appearance more for his fancy Citroen Safari in the car park and everyone going up for a swatch at it. Must admit it didnt have much competition in amongst all the Vauxhaull Vivas and Austin Allegros

There must have been a decent amouint of Scottish speedway on film at one point, Sadly it has now probably long gone I would love to see old film of Blantyre One, but all I have ever seen was home made cine cam stuff on Steve Lawsons tribute video, filmed by his father. I know Screensport were just starting out around this time, I am fairly sure they turned up at Craighead Park, not too sure about Blantyre One though I do have video tape of a couple of meetings from Craighead Park kicking about somewhere, they were by Mike Hunter though.

I filmed the Craighead Park action MJFC. First time I had hired a proper video camera, from Redifusion in Coatbridge. I got a mate to take it back for me, it was caked in dust and no way was I going back with it!! It was Glasgow v Mildenhall. The Martin McKinna crash coming off the second bend was scary at the time. He just high sided over Jessups back wheel and went howling into the fence. I think I might still have the original tape with most of the match on it. I will try and dig it out and see if we can get some of it transferred to DVD. Project for the winter! After "all things commercial" of course.

Was that the crash wee Martins helmet was a write off and he smashed his mouth up pretty bad, Craig? To be honest he had that many its hard to remember them all The two meetings I had from Craighead Park were a 1986 meeting against Edinburgh and that classic from a baltic November 1985 when Middlesbrough came to town hoping to clinch the NL title. Did you do any filming from up on top of the portacabins at the first bend, I seem to remember seeing bodies up there capturing the action and I think the Edinburgh meeting I have was filmed from there

That was the very meeting. Martin's crash helmet was a full face one that split across the mouth piece. I filmed that meeting from a few locations in the stadium but I cannot take the credit for the other two. I would love to see a copy of them though if poss during the winter nights. Maybe we should have a wee fundraiser with footage from across the ages?
