Delays are often inevitable during a match. To advertise tapes up at 4pm and never start at this time is however unforgivable and some supporters are complaining to each other about it. On frequent recent occasions a number of supporters have had to leave the stadium before heat 15.
It ought to be possible to complete 15 heats in no more than two hours. It would be a start if the tapes really did go up at 4pm. What is the problem?

I like what they do at Berwick where the riders' parade is at 6.50 for a 7.00 start-if you're not bothered by the riders going round in a truck or waving to the crowd then it's an extra 10 minutes you have either to get something to eat or simply turn up 10 minutes later and not miss the real action.

Herbie has got it. Parade prior to first race which starts on the dot at 4 pm. Meetings that are run on an Ariston basis i.e. they go on and on and on and on and on ------- puts punters off. Start sharp at 4 and run it through. To me 90 minutes should be about the optimal time for a match that's 15 heats averaging around 6 minutes per heat.

They start to take the bikes out sometimes about 3:50. The truck them comes round after that and the introductions start, usually after 4pm. The racing hasn't started at 4pm for a long time.
A bit of smart professional with the presentation of a meeting wouldn't go amiss.

I couldn't agree more. Lee Dicken is the worst offender. What exactly is he doing before each race?

I don't know what they were doing at the WTC yesterday in Poland but the riders for the next race appeared to be coming out as soon as the previous one was finished. Now I know that for various reasons that might not be possible every race (eg riders getting 2 on the trot) but nevertheless it would seem that it is possible even in a big meeting like that with various egos in the pits that they can be geared to being ready to go quickly. The "10 minutes before the start" parade to me is a definite way forward and the shorter period between races is something to aim for.

I seem to remember last season the parade being 3.45, a couple of times we had to wait a few minutes until 4.00 to get the 1st race out, fell by the wayside though.

I agree that some riders are starting to take far too long - Jamie Courtney for me is by far the worst. He makes a point of turning his head away when the Starting Marshall asks him to come to tapes - I don't know that Robert can do much more than he is to be honest. He is clear at telling the riders to come into the tapes over and over - what can he do if they ignore these instructions?? Surely it's up to the referees to start dishing out fines for delaying the start? Or should the team manager get involved and get the riders told to stop mucking about? Just some thoughts......

You dont have to look far to see where he gets that from, TS, because his old man was the worst I have ever seen for fannying aboot at the tapes ...get Billy Wilson back, he didnt stand for too much rippin' the piss at the tapes ;D

robert can only ask the riders to the tapes after that its down to the ref to sort it out remember if robert puts a hand on enyone he is liable for a fine so all he can do is ask them to the tapes the blame lies with the ref and the ref only
