Four teams qualify for the BSN semis, the three section winners and the highest scoring second place team. In our section it's now a shoot out with the Monarchs with the aggregate winner topping the section. Little likelihood the runner up going through with 5 points as Workington and Scunthorpe are both on that figure and have to race each other. Two home wins would give then 8 and 7 respectively. Oxford are out of contention in the south section with Poole almost certain to come out on top.
SO we need a big win on Friday to give us a sufficient lead to defend at Armadale at the end of the month. While the Monarchs aren't a great team , a win there is a big ask. Not sure we're a great team ourselves right now but we've had so few meetings and have yet to track our full side so it's hard to form a definite view, but failing to make the semis would be a real blow to our season.
Then on to Workington where we have an uphill task to come away with the BP, but we should take heart from Redcar winning their at the weekend,.

Well! That's the ball up on the slates! A loss following our first ever Super Heat means we've got to win at Armadale in three weeks time to stop our season running away from us. Another tough task to take the BP home from Workington tomorrow. Let's hope we get some good news on the Lee Complin front next week. Not time for inquests Not yet.

Perhaps Jack Smith will become a permanent signing when/if Complin returns with Starke dropping out. I can foresee changes, we are rather fragile and vulnerable to losing at home.

We are officially not "a great team ourselves at the moment".
We've signed some guys (Flint and Starke) who were logically a big risk and, so far, they haven't worked out.
One who has worked out a lot better than anticipated is Jimmy P. He's a great wee signing.
Just caught out of the corner of my eye the "pits clearing" fight after Heat 1 of the Junior match. What happened? Did I see young Ace throwing some punches in defence of his wee brother?

Much better tonight but needs to shed the gating tart image with some gutsy riding. He may still come good however there is no hiding place in a struggling team.

Same as Joe screen did to Jimmy nielsen many moons ago. Was too busy watching reruns of super heat on screen so didn't see what upset wood. Was convinced bomber got at least 3rd in last race.

I wouldn't mind so much if he was a gating tart. He's not even that either at the moment!

Taking the Comets to a last heat decider seems a reasonable performance, however let's remember their reserves were very poor and look at whom our guys beat to earn their points. Apart from Leon and James getting the jump on Vuolas in their first race, only our top two actually headed any Comet in their 1-5.
A summary of our guys points and who they beat for them Paul 3+1 - McGurk and Liebmann Leon 5 - Vuolas, Liebmann and McGurk James 4+3 - Vuolas and Liebmann (twice) Jack 3 - Liebmann and McGurk Ace - McGurk x3, Liebmann

I'm afraid I think Starke has to go.
No,I don't know who replaces him.
The plan, surely, was for Compton to remain at reserve all season, with Starke pushing 5.00.

The problem now is that they are very hard to put right without making several changes.

As we don't have another meeting before the cut off on May 23, the averages on the BSPL site presumably will be the ones for June. That being the case if we drop Starke and Complin our team comes to 31.3 when the team building limit inceases to 39.0 - 7.7 to play with. A 5.00 and 2.70. No idea how to fill these spots though! But perhaps Zaine Kennedy 4.27 if fit and available and Jack Smith who despite apparently signing a 28 day contract still is being shown as a guest.

Tickets now on sale for the Brit U21 Final on June 2 at £16, which seems a good deal for 20 heats and possibly a final too, May be even a semi final as well.

With the Monarchs losing to a Plymouth side with no number one, the task is far less daunting. Still a big ask but no longer Mission Impossible. Let's hope we've got our side sorted by then, remembering the facility for Lee expires the day before.

Here are some pretty damning stats to chew on
Harris 18 wins from 37 starts Starke 2 wins from 28 Flint 5 wins from 25 Pearson 4 wins from 27 Worrall 11 wins from 32 Smith 3 wins from 12 Pijper 0 from 20
Guest wins not included
We have had 7 meetings (105 heats) and only provided 43 heat winners. Bomber is doing ok but our second and third heat leaders are winning about 33% and 20% respectively.
Not good enough ? You bet !

Interesting stuff BB. Do you have our "hit rate" for heats 13 and 15?
