Interested to see that Berwick have moved their starting gate around five metres towards the fourth bend. www.berwickspeedway.com/news/track-facelift-for-new-season/Shielfield has a reputation as a gater’s paradise, so fair play to the Bandits for attempting to change the dynamic. But will it? Surely moving back the starting line gives the sharp gater greater opportunity to extend his lead into the first turn. For even starts, there’s now more chance for riders to use their elbows in the rush to the first corner. On the other hand, as entry to the first bend is fairly narrow, the change should lessen first-bend bunching. The new start line means that riders will have to alter the timing of swoops off the last bend. Will this change the racing at Berwick? I guess we’ll find out on April 6.

It's always put me off going to Berwick as it seems to be very much FTG in most match reports. But remember it's not so many years since Ashfield was the same. Now our football teams relocated we have even more scope re track shape. It's hard to imagine a better race track to call home as it stands.

Couldn't gate for toffee. 4th place lap 1 2nd bend was the norm. Swooping around bend 4 lap 4. Cue the music. Oh oh oh it's magic.

Insideout - Really pleased to hear this as I always felt the third bend entry was a bit square. Any idea when the Press and Practice Day will be so we can get a preview of the new track shape.

I believe we are looking at the 30th of March for press and practise but as of yet still to be confirmed, hoping by then that we see a much more settled weather pattern than we've had over the last 4 months. The 3rd bend has been quite tricky to work and reshape, taking input from various riders including the likes of Bomber we have tried to take the square entry away ,opening up another race line but while also trying not to lose the characteristics of our banking. Go too extreme and we lose the highline , do too little and the efforts and work to make the changes would have been wasted. Time will tell if the changes are exactly what we are looking for but as always if after the season we still think we can improve by further adjustments then we will.

Also important in any reshaping of the troublesome 3rd bend is it will hopefully be safer for riders as it seemed to cause a lot of crashes over recent seasons.

Can't get my head around Berwick's shifted starting gate. I'm assuming the change has been enacted, but the gate still looks closer to the first bend than the fourth. Thought the alteration would be more radical. Did it change the racing? No. It was pretty much gate 'n' go, although a slick track (which was watered) didn't help.

Did you happen to notice if there was less bunching at the 1st bend now riders in theory should be reaching it more spread out?
