A very sad day for speedway when Ken LeBreton lost his life (as of course it has been when any rider is killed.)
I was very friendly with Graham Warren's son Mark during the season he rode (mainly in second halves) at Perry Barr, and Mark did tell me how his father and Ken became good mates during the winter of 1950, and both did intend to ride only once a week at Sydney during the Australian season. They then received a good offer to ride in some meetings in New Zealand, which they initially wanted to turn down, but later changed their minds and decided to accept.
Within a week, Ken LeBreton was dead and Graham Warren had suffered a triple skull fracture which left him in a coma for 11 days, and effectively ruined his career.
Such is fate, but in both cases, a tragic outcome.
