We certainly couldn’t gate tonight but in general I reckon Ben, Claus and Tom and sometimes Ace to be good haters…...just didn’t happen tonight. Wonder what the gating “trick up the sleeve” was that Richard Lawson was referring to? Agree with your other comments md but what changes do you envisage could be made? Hard to know, I didn't jump on the replace Complin bandwagon but its becoming harder to justify. Two decent meetings against Edinburgh and Berwick back in April have seen little else. He doesn't seem in control of his bike most times and I dont think he can change. Thats the easy bit, finding a better rider on a lower average and who is available is the mission impossible. Marcin has been on a downer recently, most noticably from the Redcar home defeat. He doesnt like the track being anything but smooth and now isnt scoring points and it shows. He's still a good rider though and would back him more than Complin to sort it sooner rather than later. Can’t disagree with any of that md.

I remember we were invited for a challenge match in 1993 against 1st Division Poole. We lost 70-37 basically missing the gate in most races. However, on the odd occasion we came out of bend 2 in front we managed to do quite well. So nothing changes; 30 years later and Poole are still making the starts and winning meetings. However, the Redcar meeting earlier this year was notable with the Redcar riders proving if you could outgate the Pirates they weren't unbeatable. I just hope our management team and riders have watched the BSN meeting and listened to Danny King about how Poole prepare their starts. If not its going to be a long night!I don't want to say I told you so, BUT it was a long night. I wonder if Ace and his dad Theo watched the Redcar video? He made the gate in a couple of races and beat the more experienced Roynon twice and Newman once, the same Kyle Newman who in last week's Speedway Star was 20= in the Top 20 Championship averages - the Star uses the 'old fashioned' and to me best way of calculating averages - all meetings Championship, BSN Series and KO Cup plus bonus points. So well done son. Anyone that didn't watch the BSN stream, Richard Lawson in an interview suggested that the Poole riders have a little trick to help them make the gate, which of course he didn't disclose.

'Disappointing' says Broon. Well, that is one way of putting it. Humiliating, embarrassing, gutting, scunnering are nearer the mark. Its the fans who feel it most not the riders as tonight Harris and Lawson will be teammates for Leicester, Basso and Cook for Peterborough. Then back together for Friday and roll on to the next payday. Riders loyalties are to themselves. Oh for the days of Bowesy, Walshy, Crabby, Nagy , Grievesy and Mickey. Did not Broon say at the start of the season " this is the team I wanted" ?. Maybe time for a change of captain as well but I am not totally sold on Brennan . Or team manager ? As for team changes. Who is there available to improve on Complin (or Nowak)_? Joe Thompson ? a foreign lad ? Zitschke ? Next few weeks could be interesting especially with Redcar and Poole x2 to come.

Agree with your sentiments 're riders lack of team loyalty. We've got Redcar at home and Plymouth, Birmingham and Oxford away before the July cut off so a bit of time to calmly consider things. Thereafter there are eight league meetings left, the required number to get a "proper" average ie not an assessed one. It would be a big decision to make changes. But would they turn things around or should we be looking towards next season. Certainly not the team managers call.
Anyone know what Danny King said about the Poole starts?

Redcar on Friday is potentially a problem. They did very well at Ashfield last time though its unclear if Eric Riss will be riding. If he is thats a benefit to us. Connor Bailey may also be at reserve.

Food for thought. The mantra from them all last night on interview was' we need to get out the start'. On Tuesday they are at Plymouth a track where gating is of the utmost importance with so little time and room to pass. Maybe they will have their set ups etc ready by then. If not...

Hope they're all at Ashfield today having gating practice.

Meeting off. We have blank Fridays on July 14 and 21 and Poole are due up on July 28 for a league meeting, so it looks like we have plenty of scope. July 14 looks the least favourite with the Brit Junior two days later, but having Poole two weeks in a row wouldn't be great either.
But we've been down this road before with riders getting injured before a big tie. Let's hope this doesn't happen again. A Poole rain off could see us have to go without Ben and Claus unless Poole v Birmingham on July 26 is rearranged. Getting messy now. July 21 for the BSN Final so Pirates will be up on successive weeks. Not sure what this means for restaging the home meeting v Oxford but there doesnt seem to be a free Friday. Sundays may not be possbe depending on Polish fixtures, certainly for Masters, so possibly Tuesday August 8. Still no word on the date for the home meeting v Oxford and Edinburgh similarly bogged down on their date for their rearranged meeting v Birmingham. Getting tired of the way riders treat our league. "Cant come that night, doing something else!" Its as though they're doing us a favour by riding in it.

Interesting post on BSF about feathering the throttle, basically half throttle at the gate and building up going to the first bend. Something Briggo mentioned years ago. I've got no idea about bikes so would be interested to hear from more experienced people on this. But sounds a possible explanation to me.

Some suggestion that Oxford are reluctant to commit to a date in July, possibly due to Masters Polish commitments. Converting our league meeting against Poole on July 28 into the restaged BSN Final seems a bad idea on a number of fronts, not the least being the World Team Cup being held in Poland that weekend. Five man teams, so Woffinden, Lambert and Bewley plus two others. Harris and Brennan are likely to be under consideration along with King, Wright and the Worralls. Eight Championship teams are riding in league meetings on that Friday so practically no viable guests available to cover the two who get picked. Really youve got to hope it's not Chris or Tom. Sorry guys but Tigers really need you! Looks like we have finally taken this into account with our fixture v Poole on July 28 now being moved to Sunday July 30 at 6pm.
