Sitting for hours in a diesel van chugging around the countryside. Motorway food then you arrive either at a very run down stadium or a track in a field somewhere with a few burger vans in attendance. Then risking your life and limb for 5 minutes to entertain a few hundred punters ending up with dirty bike and kit plus all the way home usually in the pitch dark ! The end of Stoney ? Perhaps the start of a better life ? Seriously a great wee guy who always entertaining. I hope he gets plenty for his kit and enjoys a long and happy retirement. Well done Stoney you put in some excellent years......................................Your fan Jock

Always sad to see a rider retire, but legend? I think not!

Mac
He's the guy who rode in the second tier yet qualified for the GP's. Legend is aye over used but I cant see anyone emulating his achievement quickly.......Jock

Sorry Mac
Have to agree with Jock here - Stoney = Legend and deserves that accolade IMHO.
Have been down to Workington twice this year and am alarmed at the size of the crowd on each occasion. I'm told that it's regularly about 500.
In Stoney's day that crowd would have been nearly double that figure.

I think he will be regarded as a second division legend, especially in Workington. We nearly signed him , in the late 90s, as well!!! He probably should've retired before last season, as his scoring rapidly declined but in saying that, I would've taken him this year as a second string.
