Remember when this was run? For a time it was the best of three races, possibly until 1966 then a few years of one sudden death heat with the event ending when the Monarchs licence was bought by Wembley. Seem to think Charlie Monk was the holder in 1966 but gave it up following incidents at the Scottish Cup when he got his car vandalised. Maury Mattingley might then have contested it in Edinburgh but not sure about that. Thereafter was it held in 1968/69 but only over one leg? Anyone remember?

I think the current holder is Charlie McKinna, having defeated Brian Collins in a one-off race in 1981? That in itself was the first time it had been staged for several years. I'm sure Charlie would still have a reasonable chance of defending his trophy against the current crop of Scottish riders.
