No not Edinburgh!!!
I was thinking that there isn't really any universally "hated" sides in the PL. Remember Berwick in 1989 and 1990, Eastbourne in the 70s and late 80s, Newcastle when Ian Thomas was there, us in 93 and 94 and Ellesmere Pt in 1985. Mostly because of their win at all costs attitude or manipulating of the rules, I let you decide where we fitted under Neil MacFarlane!!!
Tigers had our own private battles with sides. It wasn't often you looked forward to visits from far flung teams such as Crayford and Mildenhall but they were always controversial!!! Crayford always seemed to whinge about the track, while Mildenhall weren't called the Moaners for nothing. The Crayford one petered out after a few years but Mildenhall lasted well into the 80s. The most infamous during a meeting in 1982 with an, ahem, slightly overwatered track , with the comment from Dick Barrie about sunglasses being on sale in the track shop after they complained about the sun being in their eyes(I suspect it was the wet shale on their goggles causing the problem) Only Newport have come close in recent years to this!!!

Peterborough werent the most popular of visitors after Mick Poole's antics at Brandon and his comments about the quality of hot beveridges served up at Shawfield Then one night we had the surreal sight of the young James Grieves and the camp Peter Oakes locked together, rolling about the centre green, after the Panthers promoter took expection to some rough stuff dished out on Ronni Pedersen by Paisleys finest ;D.....which was a bit rich, considering Pedersen was even worse than his world champion brother when it came to serving up the rough stuff With regard to the Glasgow/Mildenhall rivalry, both clubs didnt do much to defuse the situation with annual digs in their repsective programmes before each meeting and the constant baiting from DICK Barrie whenever the 'bog moggies' were in town....nothing wrang wi' that, as it all adds to the atmosphere ;D........the sort of atmosphere which is sadly lacking nowadays

The James Grieves incident was even funnier due to the fact it was Jesper Olsen who tangled with Pedersen, Grievesey was the innocent partner in the race!!! I forgot about Peterborough in that spell 1993-95. Their fans didn't like it at the Showground when we started noising them up. The KOC semi in 1994 didn't go down well with them as they thought a final place was in the bag!!!

Peterborough werent the most popular of visitors after Mick Poole's antics at Brandon Can honestly say, after the blatant cheating of the Panthers at the EoES in the 4's, the PLRC of '92 was the only time you'd have seen every Monarch cheering for a Tigger... Nagy v Poole at Brandon...

Crayford and Mildenhall were the baddies for me! although it was really only Peter Thorogood caused the Crayford upsets - seem to remember him coming up to the referees box only for timekeeper Jack Cuthbert to welcome him in with the traditional welcome -"Why dont you just **** off" Mildenhall were real villians - they donated a second half trophy - in 1984? - but took it away in the huff after losing the league meeting. A few years before that we had a meeting full of controversy and wrong decisions - culminating in Rob Henry being excluded after Steve Lawson fell going into the third bend - think the referee was persuaded the Super had been pulled off his bike from the outside!!! really persuasive that night. Still I do miss their visits Surprised no one has mentioned Newport as we seem to have had few set tos with them in more recent times - sadly I managed to miss all of them

The 1981 meeting at Blantyre was the one that kicked off all the aggro with Mildenhall, Coombes. I seem to remember Charlie McKinna and Ian Gledhill had a coming together and there was a photo of it in the programme later on. Ironically enough the Stripes were at West Row two days later, were any of our viewers present that day and recall how it went There must be someone out there, as it was part of a four meeting southern tour, Canterbury (SAT), Mildenhall (SUN), Milton K (TUES) and Oxford (WED). Mildenhall always had a touch of arrogance about them in those days. Remember they were sponsored by FSO Cars around about 82/83 and travelled to all their away meeting in a specially adapted bus ...and I dont mean a Beaton special with the bikes flung into the luggage hold As for Peter Thorogood, I alwasy thought was one of speedways good guys
