Hi, new member here. ;D
Basically, It's just sunk in that we signed this guy! So thanks for the commitment Joe and keep up the terrific performances. Without Joe Screen we would still be deep down in the division looking like a circus stunt. Skippy McGowan can't do it all himself!
Also, I know there's already a thread but how good has Nick Morris looked recently especially for his age?! Very promising, could be a great capture.
Looking forward to tomorrow night. What are your thoughts? I think if everyone pull there helmets down and performs we can take them! We need consistency throughout the riders!

Do you not think it's a bit poor that everyone has forgotten the man that Screen replaced? To dump an Ashfield legend that's given his all for Glasgow, and bring Screen in? short memories!
I think Sheffield are on fire around Owlerton, and Glasgow aren't good enough to get close to taking a point from them.

I don't think anyone has forgotten about James Grieves and the Glasgow supporters will show their appreciation at his testimonial meeting later this year. Our season was going down the toilet a few weeks ago and the promotion were under serious pressure to do something about it. I don't think dropping James was a decision that was taken lightly but the complicated rules of British Speedway sometimes make this sort of thing necessary. If you remember correctly James decided to have 3 years away from Glasgow @ Newcastle & Redcar, which I may add he was perfectly entitled to do and the same fans who you describe as having short memories always welcomed him back with a great reception. We might not take anything from Sheffield tomorrow night but we have a far better chance than we did a few weeks ago.

The bottom line is, all good things must come to an end, and when the opportunity arose to sign a rider of the quality of Mr Screen then really it's a no-brainer! You have to ask yourself, was it for best or for worst? We clearly got it spot on, Joe Screen has strengthened the squad SIGNIFICANTLY and at the end of the day we all want the best for the Glasgow Tigers! So in short Grieves out - Screen in. We win!

Spot on mate, Most important thing is that the Tigers have a winning team on the track. Of course no one is gonna forget Grieves, It would of been nice if we could have fit our top 3 and Grieves in the same team but it wasn't to be. Im sure James would agree he wasn't having his best season, especially at home. The track changes over the winter have no doubt played its part in his home form so maybe a new track wont be the worst for James. He still has his testimonial later this year at Ashfield which will be a great day for him and us fans.

I don 't think anyone can debate James contribution to the Tigers and I'm sure our promotion struggled with the decision they had to make, but with Joe signed up for 2011 and rumours(please note, only rumours) that James will retire after this season I believe the decision was a no brainer. I'd love to see James back in the Stripes sooner rather than later but as far as this season goes, unless circumstances allow, we should wish James well at Redcar and get on enjoying the Screen machine ;D

From what I've heard, so probably just rumors & guesses, up until the moment the 2 paramedics, independently, said that James's foot was broken it wasn't James that was to be dropped to let Joe (& Nick) in the team.
However once James & the Promotion were told of this injury, James said to the Promotion to make moves, as he was expecting a 4-6 week layoff, and was hoping to be able to fit back in once fit again.
Obviously the paramedics were wrong and James was actually fit, and as such took steps himself to keep money coming in by signing for Redcar.
I'd happily welcome James back into the lineup, if we can fit him in, but with the way Joe and Travis are scoring it could be difficult, and will also depend on his deal with Redcar.

I think the point of the discussion is that James had been asked by another party BEFORE that meeting how he felt about getting dropped-if that's correct, then the injury had nothing to do with the decision-it had already been made. By the way, like any other Tigers fan I do expect the team to be strengthened if things are not going well, and I am delighted that Screeny and young Nick are with us and doing remarkably well. Equally I think there is a way to go about treating riders who give everything they've got for us, even if it means they may (temporarily) lose their place) and I'm not convinced that has happened in James' case. Fortunately, for him, there was a place available for him at a track where he was happy to go to, but (particularly if you read today's Paisley Daily Express-he was ready to retire) does anyone think that a loyal servant deserves to be left without a source of income by his employers? I don't!

Well as I say, I've heard another rider had been told they were to be dropped, who then had to be told that they were being kept.

I think the point of the discussion is that James had been asked by another party BEFORE that meeting how he felt about getting dropped-if that's correct, then the injury had nothing to do with the decision-it had already been made. Now did this other party have: A) No association with Glasgow speedway for many years and was indulging in some mischief making. The Tigers won easily on their last visit five weeks beforehand, so a word to unsettle an opponent who is a track specialist just before the match might just help their beloved Monarchs. OR B) The confidence of the Glasgow management who confided in them their plans to change the team and how they were going to execute it. I think I'll go with option A. I was also sorry to see James omitted from the side. He has been a wonderful servant to the Tigers, one of my favourites ever to wear the red and white. However, whatever the planned change to the team was, the issue was forced when James crashed and the team had to be re-declared by 19:30 on the Sunday evening.

James Grieves will always have a place in MJFCs all time Tigers one to seven, as no other rider has entertained me more during the Ashfield era. For me, there has been few greater sights in speedway than seeing Grievesy tearing down the straight shoulder to shoulder with his opponent and just knowing that there was no way he was going to flinch and shut off ;D However, in my opinion, this season has seen James gradually think more about taking chances and that devil-take-the-hindmost attitude seems to be diminishing. I know he has been having engine problems all season and his health hasnt always been 100%, but could the fact that he now has a young family to think about be on his mind and perhaps be putting these thoughts of retirement into his head Whatever people may think or whatever the reasons may be, James' CMA has dropped by over a point from his final 2009 figure, which should set alarm bells ringing for a rider of James calibre. I wish him all the best at Redcar, I am sure he will once again start scoring the points he is capable and I will definitely be there in October to pay tribute to one of the greatest Glasgow Tigers of all-time ;D ......although in saying all of that, who knows what would have happened if Wethers hadnt had his unfortunate EF and Kalle hadnt come to grief at the majestic Waste Lothian "Arena" that much, much, much, much talked aboot night As for Screeny, in the years I have been watching Glasgow, I cant remember ever being excited about a new signing. But this one has got to me ;D I was a bit scunnered when it fell through during the winter, but now that he is here lets just be glad and enjoy watching one of the most naturally gifted British riders of his generation for the next couple of years and hopefully a wee bit more ;D
