A friend of mine unfortunately passed away a couple of years back. He had been an avid supporter since speedway returned to White City in 1964. His wife (another long standing supporter) has decided to clear out the loft which has boxes of programmes collected during his many years of supporting The Tigs, including some away trips. I have not seen the collection so I cannot say how complete it is but he was a meticulous person so I would think that it will be fairly complete with programmes neatly filled in (There are also Speedway Stars though there was a clearout of many of them some years ago).
His wife does not want anything for the collection but would like any proceeds to go to the club. Can anyone suggest the best way forward with this for the benefit of the club? I know that there is a lively eBay market but that would be too much hassle. Suggestions welcome.

The first thing I'd be doing would be ascertaining just exactly what I've got. For example, are there complete seasons? Are the programmes marked? Any distinguishing features, like signatures? Any rarities? All that kind of thing.
Then I'd be looking to decide how to sell them. Do you want to break them up or sell as sets, say per year or per track for aways.
Pricing is tricky. A bound set of Tigers home progs from 1978 sold on Ebay recently for £60 yet a bound Hull set from the same year didn't break £8. If you want to avoid Ebay then you're in the hands of the dealers which will potentially diminish the returns over open auction but will get rid of them with minimal hassle.
I would very much like to see the collection and make an offer, at least for the pre-Shawfield items, but I'm sure others would too.

daveallen,
It is obvious from your numerous posts regarding programmes that you know what you are about. Unfortunately, I fly out to Spain tomorrow morning for a 10 day break (missing the P&P and first meeting which is a bummer) so will no be able to follow this up until I get back. You would be welcome to have a look, I'm sure, but I will have to arrange with the 'Lady of the Loft'. As I said, she is a fan and wants only for a good home for the programmes and, hopefully, an amount to help the club or riders.
I will try to arrange and let you know.

I must say I've never seen the word 'unfortunately' precede the phrase 'I fly out to Spain tomorrow morning for a 10 day break' Enjoy your holiday!
