Anyone got a marked up program for this meeting. Ian Hoskins was running the show at this time and came up with a handicapping idea - presumably to make it harder for Ivan Mauger who was pretty unbeatable in this event. The first four heats were run as normal, then before each of the remaining races, the four riders drew a ball from a bag, containing three white and one black balls. If you got the black you started off the back mark. However you could only be handicapped once. Because of this it seems unlikely that, in a straight draw it would work out evenly. Sowas the draw "managed" as it was quite possible that all.four riders in a heat had already been "blackmailed" My own program.has two or three of the later races with no one off the backmark. Possibly I'd lost interest in the scheme. Like I said, anyone got a fully marked up program with the details? The scheme didn't work as Mauger went on to retain his title.
