Some of you may know I write articles for the Back Track and Classic magazines. The editor has kindly given me three DVDs as prizes for Glasgow Fans. Just answer the simple question below and email me with your details and you'll be in the draw to be made on Sunday 31st August on the centregreen at Ashfield.
DEFUNCT BRITISH SPEEDWAY TRACKS ON DVD
IT is 46 years since the roar of 500cc bikes with no brakes was last heard at the White City – but now all those wonderful the memories will come flooding back with the release of a new triple disc DVD, DEFUNCT BRITISH SPEEDWAY TRACKS.
Six hours of pure nostalgia includes old colour archive footage of the Tigers racing at Paisley Road West, where the sport was last staged in 1968. There is also nostalgic film of Test match action featuring Jimmy McMillan at Hampden Park, plus laps from both Blantyre One and Two and Shawfield. Indeed, there are more past Glasgow tracks featured on the DVD than those of any other club. In addition to Jimmy Mac, among other former riding favourites captured in action who will need no introduction to local speedway supporters include: Ken McKinlay, Charlie Monk, George Hunter, Bobby Beaton, Steve Lawson, Charlie McKinna, Martin McKinna, Mark Courtney, Sean Courtney, Mick Powell, Wayne Ross and Robert Nagy. The team is also seen in action at Powderhall.
There are 64 other past venues featured, including Berwick’s Berrington Lough, Edinburgh’s Old Meadowbank and Powderhall, plus the vast majority of British speedway’s long lost tracks – from famous big city arenas to remote, much loved outposts in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. Lap up the action time again with more than 250 races.
Thanks to our friends at Retro Speedway, we are offering three copies of Defunct British Speedway Tracks on DVD for our readers to win. To stand a chance of winning, all you have to do is correctly answer the following question:
When was the first league meeting raced at Hampden, who was it against and what was the score?
Send your answer to or by email to glasgowcshistory@hotmail.com to arrive by no later than, 28th August 2014.
A draw of the lucky winners will be on the centregreen during the Tigers v Rye House meeting on Sunday 31st August.
