A post on the BSF enquiring what music they marched out to at White City, Hampden and Shawfield. I remember the orchestral version of Fanfare For The Common Man latterly but I've also got Eye of the Tiger from the early days baring it's teeth in the memory bank. White City and Hampden I'll leave to you 'ahem' more experienced supporters While we're at it, what was used at Coatbridge and Blantyre?

The one that sticks in my mind most is the one the riders marched across the centre green at Blantyre One to..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UQwUpfRSww....if I am being honest I can't remember any others

Jeez-o that rings absolutely no bells with me at all and I thought I'd recognise it instantly! Maybe I heard it that often I blotted it out but that's a bit weird. Didny know the Black Watch employed a stylophonist

Not sure if it was played throughout the Tigers' tenure at Blantyre One, Dave, but it was certainly played during the earlier years and the tune always stuck with me. Sunny Friday nights and Sunday afternoons, with the riders marching across the centre green. I never knew the name of the tune until it came up in conversation on here a good while back and I asked what the jaunty we number the riders used to come out to at Blantyre was and it was Coombes I think who came up with the answer for me. The Black Bear at Powderhall and Scotch On The Rocks are the two that have always stuck in my mind.

Kenny Malcolm brought Scotch on the Rocks for Blantyre but had thought of using Black Bear until I reminded him it was used at Old Meadowbank. I'm sure we used 633 Squadron at the White City, certainly in 1965. At Hampden the teams walked out to silence in 1972, as music was banned by the local council following a residents complaint, a truly weird atmosphere that year! We used the opening fanfare of Fanfare to the Common Man while the riders were settling at the tapes at both Blantyre tracks. Not sure about it being used as a march out tune though.

Surely it was William Tell at the starts at Blantyre?

Yes Dave you are right! The tape we used was a continuous loop and it eventually self destructed. Not sure what we used after that but can remember having to rewind it often during a race.

There was always a sense of excitement and anticipation when the riders were revving up at the tapes with the William Tell Overture blasting out.....pretty sure it can still be heard at some tracks today.

Hurrah! My memory's not completely addled then. It's certainly still in use at Lakeside having watched the live stream from there last night. Any advance on 633 Squadron for White City and what was played when allowed at Hampden?
