Tomorrow is the fortieth anniversary of the tragic night when Svein Kaasa was killed. A truly horrible night. The meeting was over when Neil Macfarlane announced that Svein's injuries had "proved fatal". There was stunned silence as no one could take in what had been said. Everyone seemed to want to get out of the stadium right away but once out no one went home, just milled about. A lot were in tears, even guys that I would have said were pretty hard cases.
Svein has been remembered particularly at this time every year and no doubt heat 15 will again be dedicated to his memory on Sunday.
Never forgotten

Svein will be in my thoughts tomorrow night. I just wonder how many, like myself, who were there when the tragedy happened, will be at Ashfield on Sunday? (weather permitting) It was good to see that the Speedway Star gave due recognition to the events of forty years ago.

Another year, indeed two since these posts, but Svein will never be forgotten. Will heat fifteen on Sunday be dedicated to his memory with the Memorial Trophy being presented to the winner.

I gather the plan is for the Memorial Trophy to be awarded to the winner of heat fifteen of the last meeting of the season. We may well have done this in recent years/last year.
