Noticed in 2nites programme (edin) that there have been two derby meets that have taken place at a Neutral track.
Can anyone tell me details of these are why at neutral track? (think one took place at ashfield (old) once.
Cheers

Ashfield had taken to racing on Saturday nights in 1952, probably in the hope of better crowds, and despite Saturday being Edinburgh's race night. With the Giants away at Edinburgh, their promotion staged a Glasgow V Motherwell event - don't know if it was a great success, but it was a desperate last fling that year at Ashfield and they got thrown out the league that winter.
I am working on a website about Scottish Open licence season, and Ashfield 1953 will feature on it.

It's still hard to believe there used to be 2 teams in Glasgow

Yes, Glasgow and Edinburgh have raced twice at neutral venues.
The first took place at Ashfield on Tuesday 9th August 1949, when Ashfield raced away at Southampton. The result was Glasgow 28 Edinburgh 56.
The second took place at Motherwell on Friday 28th August 1953 when Motherwell raced away at Wolverhampton. A better result this time, Glasgow 61 Edinburgh 47.

And marginally more up to date, Tigers raced Cradley at Belle Vue in, I think, 1971 when the Aces were away racing in Russia or some far off place - certainly out of the country.

... and to even things up, Ole Olsen guested for Cradley - quite a meeting!

... and Chris Pusey also guested for Cradley that night. In fact guests Olsen and Pusey scored 21 out of the Heathens total of 31.
Olsen and Pusey both beat Mauger in his first 2 rides, but then Mauger won his last 2 rides for a 10 points from 4 rides score.
