Still a month to go to tapes up, so I thought I'd get the grey matter working. As far as I am aware, we are the oldest currently operating Tigers in UK speedway, being the stripey ones since 1946. Sheffield were originally called the Blades (perhaps before todays association was known, and of course they would be banned anyway!) Mildenhall started in the 70's and Middlesbrough changed over then from the Teesiders (catchy name). Does anyone know of any others. I believe there was a Midlands Tigers team (Tamworth?) but there could be others. If the BSPA chose to franchise team names like in NFL, we would have a good case for keeping ours, but what would you make the others change theirs to?

We did used to call Mildenhall the Moaners but I suppose that doesn't fit now!! What about Bombers? Sheffield Steelers has been taken, as has Scimitars. They were once called the Tars in the 50s but it's hardly a modern name. Sheffield Stars has a ring to it but then Kings Lynn own that one. Sheffield Snookers?!!
