Certainly Charlie's average is the highest any Glasgow rider has reached, not even Steve Lawson managed to beat it, best I think he managed was 10.53 in 1981. Ken McKinlay and Sverre Harrfeldt both had 11pt plus averages in 1965 for West Ham. I would say a number of riders have had 11pt plus averages. Mauger, Briggs,Olsen and Nielsen I'm sure have all managed it and there are probably others(Joe Owen in 1976?). Owen's average in 1982 and 1983 would be hefty as well

In fact that figure has been beaten three times, once by Monk himself. These occasions were: Tommy Miller - 10.88 (from 43 league matches in 1952) Charlie Monk - 10.88 (from 22 league matches in 1964) Tommy Miller - 10.81 (from 31 league matches in 1953)

If my memory serves me right was it not that Charlie topped the riders' averages for the whole of the 1967 season only to loose top spot to Briggo ( no disgrace there) on the last week of the season?

Seriously impressive stats here. in 1986, Hans Nielsen attained an 11.83 average with Oxford in Div1. The highest ever average in British League history. He was unbeaten, the WHOLE SEASON, AWAY FROM HOME. Not even Erik Gundersen could get near him at Dudley that year.
