QUESTIONS FROM GRASSCUTTER
Q HOW MANY CLUBS DID YOU RACE WITH
SC Altogether I raced with about 11 clubs
Q WORST SPEEDWAY INJURIES
SC I had a bad back injury at Glasgow in 99, I also had a bad one
at Rye House in 2003 where I done some internal damage, a burst
shoulder and a bad concussion
Q HOW DID YOU GET INTO SPEEDWAY
SC My uncle Sean was riding at Shawfield in 97 and I thoroughly
enjoyed watching, I had interest in riding but didn’t really have a clue,
throughout that winter, Sean showed me some basics and I really
enjoyed it, Sean and Sue bought me my first bike and I travelled most
of 98 gaining experience
Q LEAST FAVOURITE TRACK RACED ON
SC I have to say it’s a toss up between Wimbledon (for those who never
went it was radically different to the old Wimbledon). Newport, a great
shape but whoever prepared it must have loved crashes or preffered
motocross to watch, I also never enjoyed any visits to Buxton, but as far
as being the worst I think Wimbledon just takes it
Q BEST TEAM PARTNER RACED WITH
SC I enjoyed my stint with Aidan Collins at Ashfield in 2000, laterly racing
with my brother at oxford was good fun in 2005
Q BEST SPONSORSHIP YOU EVER HAD
SC Throughout my career I mainly had small sponsorship schemes rather
than anything big, I couldn’t have gotten off the ground without it, some
were small amounts of money and some were products and transport
Q BEST MEMORY OF YOUR CAREER
SC Sounds a bit tame but probably winning my first race against Sheffield
in 2000, it wasn’t my first win but it was the first time my old man seen me
ride, I had some great times in the states ice racing too but they were mainly
partying n stuff
Q NAME BEST 7 RIDERS YOU RACED WITH
SC This is difficult, i'd say David Meldrum, Jamie Courtney, Aidan Collins,
Tai Woffinden, Malcolm Holloway, Kevin Little and Kelvin Tatum, some
of the lads were at the beginning of there careers n some were showing
the younger fella's the way, all of them were very trustworthy and classy
on the track
QUESTIONS FROM JIM NEIL
Q DID UNCLE SEAN AND DAD GIVE YOU MUCH ADVICE
SC Absolutely, there's no way I'd have had the opportunities or technique
without they're advice and help
Q BEST TEAM MANAGER YOU RACED UNDER
SC Another one I can’t give a straight answer, either Ronnie Russell at arena
or Dave Tatum at stoke
Q DO YOU THINK YOULL EVER RACE AGAIN
SC No, I had a great adventure but it felt the right time to move on
Q BEST PROMOTION YOU RACED UNDER
SC Probably Stoke (conference league) thoroughly enjoyed the 06
season with them
Q WILL YOU BE AT ASHFIELD WATCHING JAMIE RIDE FOR TIGERS THIS SEASON
SC I will be, I always enjoy my trips to Ashfield, great track and good people
Q WHAT MADE YOU RETIRE SO YOUNG
SC Many things really, the safety of the sport probably being one of the main things,
I seen some nasty accidents and had a few but the safety never really evolved,
correctly installed air fences and better track prep would be nice, I'd ran my course
of roughing it up and down the country and being skint, you grow up quick in
speedway but I think its a financial battle till the end, great memories and no
regrets (sorry if it sounds a bit sinical)
Q DID YOU EVER RIDE IN THE SAME TEAM AS YOUR DAD OR SEAN
SC I did, Glasgow 99, 2000, 2001
Q HOWS THE BAND DOING
SC Really good, I've always been a big music fan, we've been going about a year
and its been great, we done a mini American tour and had some good shows,
check us out on www.myspace.com/warehouseannouncement.
my wife Cheryl just recently gave birth to our first son, Owen Courtney, Cheryl’s
dad is the ex Newcastle and Hull rider Joe Owen, its a bit of a double barelled
speedway name
