Oxford manage to squeeze out Plymouth 46-44 after a last heat 5-1 from Masters and Nicholls who topped their scorecard with 15 and paid 17 respectively, the latter having a TS ride. Boughen the only other Cheetahs to impress, with their pairing of Heeps and Jenkins really poor. I had expected Jenkins to be the one to blast on from last year but may be not. The Thompson twins were impressive for the Gladiators who would surely have won had guest Zack Cook scored more than four. Cheetahs now have to win at Plymouth to keep any hopes of making the semis. All of a sudden our KO Cup tie with them looks far less daunting. Who do we get in the next round?!

Hopefully not getting ahead of myself nor jinxing it but the semi final guest situation is Guests for the semi-finals and Finals of those competitions (BSN, KO Cup, Playoffs) can only be selected from teams that have been eliminated from that competition. It is to be hoped that all KO Cup quarterfinals are ridden off before the first semi final is run. They weren't in the last two years.

Oxford certainly not a team in form right now. Masters and Nicholls form a formidable spearhead but there's little after that, with Jenkins in particular having a torrid start to his season. Would be looking for us to score more than 50 which should be enough to get us through.

Quite unusually, my hat is off to the Monarchs after they stop Poole from breaking the 50 point barrier in last nights KO Cup tie in Dorset. Pickering had 13 while the rest largely packed the minor positions. Poole are may be not the strong team of the last couple of years. However I wouldn't be surprised should they win in Armadale next week.

Great stuff from Jack Smith. Are we allowed two guest reserves or do we have to sign him? All might be clear once the Lee Complin situation is known. Hope Ace isn't out too long.

Lightning out of the gate. I found it a bit odd that "suspected broken wrist" Ace Pijper didn't go to hospital. Surely someone in the pits, or associated with the promo, could have given him a lift. Hell he could have ordered an uber! Chris still to find top form. Both he and Steve weren't too sharp out of the gate. I was impressed with James Pearson, nice smooth economical style. In comparison Leon appeared to be on a bucking bronco. Paul Starke did everything expected of him, pretty steady. For them, that good looking old fella off the tele sure can still shift, very brave too. Still no further forward with the Boughen pronunciation. I think we got three different ones, none of which were the "bow-gen" which I thought we'd established was the correct one. Scary fast but a wee tad reckless. They're carrying passengers and can see changes.

Don't agree with Cami Brown's idea that Oxford are "seriously good at Cowley" They have had one home meeting, narrowly beating unfancied Plymouth, not a great result though the Gladiators aren't as bad as some folk believe. While not getting complacent we surely need to be a bit more upbeat and stop building up the opposition. Not sure that many would currently rate Oxford as necessarily being in the top three right now. We'll see on Wednesday.
