- Long range weather forecasts are notoriously inaccurate and are psyching out supporters and impacting on attendances. Last night's meeting should have been the biggest of the season. But it wasn't. The FB page had posts saying it wouldnt be on while others were recklessly assuring us that it would. Both need to be discouraged. The only one that has any credence is trackman Paul Honthy's photographic updates. Hopefully he continues them
- there is a fine margin between last night's glorious success and the doom and gloom of a loss. Fortunately we were on the right side but let's not get carried away. Roynon had three non finishes, even one of them could have swung the meeting. Indeed if the Pirates team manager had swapped his third ride to heat nine, it may well have changed the outcome.
- Ben Basso can handle heat 15 and needs to be at number five so he goes out in heat 13, which is proving too.much for Tom Brennan. The team would be better served with him at three, or possibly four. Some feel he doesn't ride well with Claus but, while their scores when riding together haven't been great, does that mean their styles are incompatible? Not sure, but should we use the home meetings with Plymouth and Berwick to try different team line ups. Claus at two, Marcin at four.
- once again we have a big lead at heat ten, stage a long interval/track grade and lose momentum. It's almost our trademark! Something has to change. Can the kids race be earlier or later. It's the tail that's wagging the dog. FB posts claiming it the race of the night aren't helping.
- replacing Lee is very difficult. Connor Coles didn't actually beat any Pirates rider last night. In contrast Sam Hagon who came in for Ace was a standout, so I guess it evened things out.
- sadly there is little to suggest we could beat Poole over two legs which doesn't auger well for the playoffs.
