Really sad to tell you that Bruce passed away a few days ago in a care home in his native New Plymouth. One of Trevor Redmonds original septet that brought the Speedway back to the White City in 1964 after an eight year absence. Remembered for his crash with Bill Landels, when the Monarch managed to slew round and sprawl in front of him at the top of the home straight. Somehow he missed the fallen Landels by riding into his bike, throwing him high in the air, resulting in a broken collar bone. No ambulances in these days and was driven to the local hospital where he was told there would be a two hour wait. So he adjourned to a nearby pub and was well refreshed by the time of treatment. An affable and friendly guy who would spend time talking to supporters and signing autographs and still fondly remembered by all who knew him.

RIP Bruce. Very nice fella. After he signed my young cousin's book with a big smile, he looked around to see if there were any more customers. He would have been 83 in a couple of weeks.

Bruce was my first hero in the reformed Tigers. I became good friends with him and Graham Goombes. R.I.P.
