Here is another. I remembered my old man saying he had seen Jack Milne who was the World champion in 1937. Checked on Researcher and he did appear in 1939 at the White City along with his brother Cordy

Reading further in the Researcher, big thanks here to Jim Henry, 1939 saw the first World Champion , Lionel Van Praag, take part in match races at the White City while Bluey Wilkinson appeared but only as Sheffield team manager. Think that about wraps this up, chaps.

Checked on Researcher and he did appear in 1939 at the White City along with his brother Cordy I've read that Harry Lauder was there that night and was sitting beside Mr Milne senior, Jack and Cody's father, who revealed he had been born in Scotland, leading Harry to proclaim that the Milnes were really Scottish. This might have been the start of our phoney Scots!

It looks like (at least) 31 of the 36 World Champions have ridden in Glasgow then, which is quite remarkable since we've seldom been in the top flight.
Perhaps even more if anyone can remember seeing any of the following:
Bluey Wilkinson Bjorn Knutsson Jan O Pedersen Tomasz Gollob Bartosz Zmarzlik
I think Gollob was supposed to ride in the big individual meeting in 1995 at Shawfield, but never appeared.

Correct, ct. Trumpeted to appear but maybe got wind of things as , from what I recall meeting winner Ronnie Correy did not get paid. He may have got some cash years later but i dont think so. Mr Hopes appeared to have bitten off more than he could chew as Tigers were out of action the following year amidst financial problems.
