I also note the play off propaganda has kicked aff early, apparently Edinburgh will give either Ipswich or Eastbourne a tough time of it... And, if Nigel had referred to the Bumper Book of Daft Speedway Rules, he'd have noticed that the winners of the PL play-offs get a crack at the EL wooden spoonists. Topping the PL table guarantees nothing.

The Golden Hammer will get mentioned at least once. I am sure it will, BH I am pretty sure Nigel Pearson spent part of his childhood on the terraces of the much missed Dudley Wood....and speaking of which, the best of luck to young Nick in the Golden Hammer. I am sure it is a meeting that will mean a lot to you and bring back some great memories ;D Cheers It used to be a massive meeting, Penhall v Carter etc. Not quite the same being at Wolverhampton (sort of like the Ashfield Classic being at Edinburgh if you know what I mean?) but the Heathens fans seem to have taken to the ground sharing idea...not that they have a lot of choice right now. If I'd booked flights a week earlier I would of made this one...oh well.

Not a mention of "speedway and rain" in the last few comments.
Let's get back on topic.
I posted something recently but it too was in the 'wrong' place ( it happens when we wander all over the place off topic) and am putting it here to see if it gets a reaction.
I suggested after the last call off at Ashfield, putting riders out BEFORE the start of a wet meeting. We've all seen how quickly a track dries out when it's being ridden.
I suggest it would NOT be riders who will be racing that day,who would then get an unfair advantage on any rider who doesn't have a few laps, but perhaps juniors, and or experienced riders looking for some track time ( I'm sure there'd be loads if this became the norm.)
That way the track gets dried out and riders benefit from the experience of riding in all conditions, AND in front of a crowd. Of course this wouldn't be feasible if it was just TOO wet, but just enough to need drying out.
Whatsay?

Whatsay? can't really see anyone wanting to run the risk of injury or damage to machinery on a wet track just to make it better for someone else to use.if it's not fit for racing then it's not fit for racing.surely the track machinery could do as good a job

What are the plans for restaging the two rained off PL fixtures (Kings Lynn and Sheffield) and what is the cut off deadline for them? If a mid week date is being considered, can it be linked to a blank Sunday - like Aug15th when the PL Fours are on. Alternatively if we don't make the Fours - how are qualifiers decided? - we should ask, nay demand, to stage a home meeting that day against another team that isn't "invited" to the Fours - if it falls that way The Edinburgh PPT fixture can surely be put back until September to free up another Sunday - if required

By my reconing there are allready 5 home matches to be fitted in and 5 free Sundays untill the end of October.
1 Edin P Trophy, 3 PL Kings Lynn, Sheffield & Newport, there is also the home leg of the Scottish Cup not shown on the fixtures currently.
I would have thought the best call for a mid-week match would be on the Glagow Fair holiday Monday, which would let a maximum number of fans go.
As for the idea of running juniors when it's wet I'm not for it, some of them are lucky to hold on when it's dry! There are not many "experianced" riders who are local enough to drop in to run for practice, I know Wiliam Lawson was going to at the KL match, but if they were that desperate for track time they would be at Ashfield for the 2nd half anyway.
I also seem to remember Michael Max saying, before the KL match I think, that it wad better that it had not been raced on when it came to getting the track raceable, this was just at the start of the first heavy shower right enough.

That sort of thing has happened quite a few times in the past, OTS, where a certain fixture is seemingly jinxed by the weather. By the way, like you I wont see any speedway until the 25th either, although a wee break from the speedway wont do me any harm, as I have been getting a wee touch fed up with it this year.....maybe this will re-charge the batteries. I assume the rain-off ticket from the Kings Lynn meeting will still get us into the meeting on the 25th, the following week or the re-staging of the Stars meeting
