QUESTIONS BY GRASSCUTTER
Q WHERE DID YOU RIDE YOUR FIRST SPEEDWAY BIKE
KB Where else – Hyde Road, Belle Vue
Q HOW MANY CLUBS DID YOU RACE FOR
KB Belle Vue, Boston, Glasgow, Newcastle, Kings Lynn and Peterborough
Q BEST TEAM PARTNER YOU RACED WITH
KB
it’s a strange question really, no one ever wants to be beaten by their team mate.
I got on well with most of my team mates at all levels, in the 80’s if most who raced
are honest, apart from the odd bike lending or spare part lending team spirit did not exist,
teams were successful because of the individual performances that made the whole. At
Glasgow I probably had more fun with Charlie Mac’ on and off the track, Newcastle good
friends Nigel Crabtree and Rod Hunter, Rod was probably one of the most professional
from both leagues. Kings Lynn, I had a great time there too, Mel Taylor, Dicko, Colin
Richardson were all good team mates and bloody good laugh too.
Q HOW DID YOUR MOVE TO TIGERS COME ABOUT
KB DaveThomson called me after I’d been to Glasgow with Boston.
Q WAS THAT TRAVELLING TO BLANTYRE A BIT TO MUCH
KB No, the quickest I did from my house was 2 hours flat, I think that’s an average
of 99.9 MPH!
Q DID YOU ENJOY RIDING WITH THE TIGERS
KB yep
Q WHAT WAS YOU WORST SPEEDWAY INJURY
KB
Peterborough, Oct 11th 1985, although I road again the following year it took
my left arm about 9 -12 months to recover enough to race, funnily enough I’m off
to get a scan done on it in the next couple of weeks.

QUESTIONS BY JIM NEIL
Q NAME 7 BEST RIDERS YOU RACED WITH
KB
How do you define best? Most successful or most helpful and friendly, it’s a difficult.
A rider that improved me overnight was Bruce Penhall when he came to Newcastle
for a match race with Kenny Carter, he blew Kenny away, he was awesome,
I changed my riding style and speed that night.
I was riding with Kym Mauger and Ivan travelled to Newcastle with us I spent some
time at their house, Ivan suggested I move up to the British League asap, I went
to Kings Lynn for the following season, so Ivan, Bruce Penhall, Rod Hunter, he was
just so professional and a good friend, Dave Jessup at Kings Lynn, a very fair rider,
as the better rider he always gave me gate options, not always enjoyed by some
others at the time. Tom Owen, had a few good days riding with him at the beach near
his house, Tom was ahead of his time, a real team player, unfortunately due to his bad
leg break, managed not too many meetings. Bobby Beaton, he was both a good team
player and a good friend.
Q DID YOU RIDE SECOND-HALFS AT HYDE ROAD
KB From my birthday in August 1977 to the end of that season. After that I went
to Boston and so on. –Won my first race and finished 2nd in the final,
a great day for me.
Q DO YOU STILL GO TO SPEEDWAY MEETINGS
KB The first speedway meeting I went to after I finished was with Andy Smith
in Poland 2007.
Q WORST AWAY TRACK YOU RACED ON
KB Old Berwick, round the football ground
Q WHAT MADE YOU LEAVE TIGERS I THOUGHT YOU ENJOYED IT
KB Money unfortunately, there was never that much around, so a little made
a big difference.
