With the Championship Shield match at Armadale now scheduled for Friday 24th May, the home meeting with another Friday track (Scunthorpe) will be "lost". This means a five week gap between the home match with Eastbourne on 17th May and the next home league match with Somerset on Friday 21st June. The re-arranged fixture with Scunthorpe might have to go to a Sunday. More fixture "indigestion".

More fixture problems with last night being rained off. Sheffield don't have a meeting scheduled on Sunday May 26 and we no longer have a home fixture on the Friday so that seems a good date for the restaging.

A great display last night at Owlerton, never the happiest of hunting grounds for us, surely will see us into the next round, where we are due to meet either Redcar or Somerset. With the Bears taking a 53-36 lead from the first meeting they are surely in with a shout at being our opponents in round two and therein lies the problem as both teams have a Friday race night and a fairly packed fixture list through to late August - indeed we aren't due there on league business until September 13 which must be pretty close to the playoff cut off. Both teams are free on July 5 which can possibly be used for one leg although it's getting a bit late for a second round tie. Looks like we need to have a meeting every week, Friday, Sunday , Tuesday or Wednesday to get our fixtures run in time. The lesson from last year was not to push everything into September and then stuff everything into the few final weeks.

I think we've gone the wrong way in rearranging the home fixtures with Scunthorpe (league) and Sheffield (cup). Taking Scunthorpe on Saturday 25th looks like leaving us with no option the following weekend, presuming we are not going to run on May 31 against the British Semi at Redcar where Paul is riding.
If we had gone for Sheffield on Saturday May 25 or Sunday May 26 - Sheffield have no home fixture that Sunday- we could then have raced Scunthorpe on Saturday June 1, discharging both our outstanding meetings. Sheffield have meetings on both June 1 (at Eastbourne) and June 2 ( v Scunthorpe)
Possibly it's not as simple as I've laid out depending on riders commitments abroad.

Do we need to restage the Sheffield meeting on Friday May 31 and just accept that we will have guests that night?

Well done to the promotion for fixing up for us to race Sheffield on Tuesday May 28 and unblocking a possible fixtures log jam. Similar action may be required to set up dates for the next round against fellow Friday nighters Redcar, particularly if/when we qualify for the Championship Shield semis. Well done guys!

A lot of good things last night - promptly run meeting, well watered, if a little slick, track, fine performance from Kyle amongst others - as we take care of Sheffield and go through to the next round. This means we now have three home meetings to add into the fixture list - KO Cup second round v Redcar - Championship semi v Berwick/Leicester/Eastbourne. Will this be a drawn out the hat or will we be allocated Berwick? - league v Scunthorpe Right now we have no fixture this coming weekend although only Redcar are available on Sunday and it's possibly to close to organise. However Scunthorpe on Saturday seemed possible. As we only have Friday July 5 free between now and late August - and Berwick race at Scunthorpe that night - we need some midweek dates, meaning two meetings in a week and three in eight days. Would we consider Friday June 14, although Redcar race Eastbourne then, with the British Junior meeting just two days later? Should we be looking at getting the extra meetings in next month before the school holidays start, remembering we hopefully might have further rounds to stage in the cup competitions. Might there also be a test match again this season? Presumably VRX will be keen to stage them and as major sponsors we must be an likely choice. Interesting times.

Our away fixture at fellow Friday night track Scunthorpe tonight has been postponed based on the weather forecast, adding to the fixtures backlog. However neither team has anything scheduled for next Friday so you would hope it gets rearranged for then.

Craig Cook has qualified for the GP Qualifier Final which will be held in Croatia on Saturday August 24, so we need to be careful what fixture we schedule at Ashfield the night before and if possible avoid any cup meetings which are decided on aggregate scores. We could probably get by with a guest in a league meeting but for a two legged tie we need to rack up as many points as possible at home and few guests are likely to record a 15 point maximum. He is likely to miss the Newcastle league meetings in July due to the Speedway of Nations final in Russia but hopefully guests will ensure we are not disadvantaged in either meeting.

Scunthorpe announced on Tuesday that they will be restaging their league meeting against us on Sunday 28 July. www.scunthorpe-speedway.com/?p=10061Not quite sure why we are still to publicise this. Hopefully we want to announce dates for the home and away fixtures with Scunthorpe at the same time. Interestingly the two rearranged aways - @ Redcar on July 2 and @ Scunthorpe on July 28 - both give us two day road trips. Redcar/ Birmingham and Leicester/Scunthorpe.

Perhaps we havent agreed to the Scunthorpe re-staging date, its still not listed on the website. I don't see us getting pushed around, not even by Godfrey. Will have to wait and see.
