Yes, well done Workington, seem to be popular champions. Despite a lot of negatives, still think we have a better track and now another year on the learning curve behind us. Clear out no doubt required. Pijper and Wethers at reserve anyone? Track is certainly far better. Just a pity we didn't do it in the early years before we did the Bring a Friend scheme. Don't think Pijper and Wethers are possible as reserves if we have Cook, between them the three of them account for nearly 22 points, meaning the other four can only be 5 point men and at least two would probably have figures than Pijper or Wethers. Using Cook will have quite an impact on our team structure. We need a second heat leader at around 7 so I think we can only have one high value (ie around 5) reserve. As we're in Fantasy League mode at the moment, how about James Shanes who has a figure of 5.07 or similar - less than Pijper or Wethers and he's a good bit younger and hopefully on an upward trajectory. Probably have Jack Thomas at seven though would think about Connor Mountain if his numbers fit. Think Shanes guested for us a couple of times although was he not too great in one of them. Anyone remember how he went @ Ashfield?

Feared tbat was the case Highroad. Did he win the fiasco heat at Ashfield when Thomas and Sargeant had the wrong helmet covers - not our finest night. If he did I don't think it counts! Back to the drawing board.!! Like I said we were in Fantasy League mode.

The champions paradox. You win the title, score a bundle of points and lose a fortune! Happened to us following the good year and to Edinburgh too. Sadly there has been speculation about Workingtons future both at and beyond Derwent Park. If it proves true, they've certainly gone out on a high but let's hope not. Workington are going to race this year but are looking for a buyer/major investor. Not sure that my "champions paradox" is correct. The Comets scored 877.5 points in 2018, a figure exceeded by no less than six other teams and only 30 more than bottom club Redcar. Certainly they had one less home meeting with their fixture against Lakeside not being completed. However even with a notional 50 points, they would still be behind Edinburgh, Glasgow and Berwick, and possibly Lakeside too. So in a lot of respects they just had an "average" season and possibly can't expect their costs to be much lower in 2019. It's worrying that 2019 might be "The Last Time" for a number of clubs.
